NEW: The big tech midterm realignment could have huge implications in 2028. Trump has made his party the defenders of Silicon Valley execs. Democrats see a populist windfall. The proof is in the ad spending data. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

I too judge a city's success by the prominence of its downtown Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom Rack will open next year at 2 Stockton Street, near Union Square! Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. The 50,000 square foot Nordstrom Rack is just the latest example of retail coming back downtown.  We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed. I'm thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again, and look forward to welcoming Nordstrom Rack as we continue building on our city's momentum.

The breadth of this reporting is astounding: "...interviews with more than 40 [!!] current and former administration officials, FBI employees, and members of Congress and their staffers, as well as others close to the White House" Read @S_Fitzpatrick:
Agents across the country have been seeking counsel in recent weeks about how to respond to FBI directives related to the election, according to 6 current and former FBI and DOJ supervisors and outside defense attorneys who told me they have received calls. @TheAtlantic theatlantic.com/politics/202…

"Listening feels like getting beaten with a candy cane." Sadly Taylor Swift isn't part of my remit in my new job @TheAtlantic, but luckily my new colleague @skornhaber wrote the pitch-perfect analysis of her new songs theatlantic.com/culture/2026…

Hello hello, some personal news: Today is my last day at @jewishinsider. I'm excited for a new opportunity (I'll share more soon!), but also very emotional to leave a job that I love — where I've gotten to cover issues I really care about. I know that's rare. Some thoughts⬇️

After a kosher sushi spot closed, I waded into an age-old Washington debate, one w/ rare bipartisan agreement: Why aren't there more kosher restaurants in DC? (except @akeyak, who says newcomers don't know that they actually have it pretty good right now) jewishinsider.com/2026/08/wa…

I have finally found the topic that truly stumps AI: asking it to understand how cousins are related to each other After much discussion, I think this woman (my grandma's first cousin) is my first cousin twice removed. Yes? No? Perhaps this is one of life's great mysteries
