As global dementia rates are projected to increase by 2050 due to a growing aging population, what can we learn from Finland’s approach to preventing cognitive impairment? In partnership with @globeandmail and reported by students at the @GR_Program. bit.ly/3FPD2XG

The story spans sports, social issues and international politics, and it’s placement as part of one of the world’s largest sporting events means it draws more attention than a typical international story might. (2/?)

You get to see sports fans interested in an international politics story, and politics readers invested in sports. As someone who wouldn’t call myself a sports fan, this is the type of story that keeps me tuned in to WC2022 coverage. (3/3) ^VM

This #WorldFisheriesDay, check out the @GR_Program's project about fishmeal, which was produced in partnership with @NBCNews. The project is especially relevant this year since @FAO named 2022 the year of #ArtisanalFisheriesAquaculture. 🐟 Find it here: bit.ly/3EMwTe3

So lovely to have @amtremonti join our @GR_Program class last week. Her insights and advice were invaluable! Especially as fellows prepare for their upcoming reporting trip.
Graduate students at #UBC #JWAM had the honour and pleasure of welcoming @amtremonti in their classrooms last week. As an Asper Visiting Professor, Anna will inspire and motivate future #journalists with her anecdotal wisdom.

Flooding season can bring bounty but it brings its own climate challenges. Vietnam's Directorate of Water Resources warns Mekong Delta localities of exceptionally high tides and their effects that need to be mitigated. - HM en.vietnamplus.vn/mekong-del…
Flooding season came a bit late this year to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Now that it's here, farmers are hard at work switching from cultivating crops to fishing. Check out the photo here! 👇 -HM
Climate change events like droughts, irregular rainfalls, floods, and saltwater intrusion are heavily impacting agricultural crops in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta leading to some farmers moving to urban areas. - HM

It's interesting to see the connections here with GRP's recently published story on aging: there has been an increase in senior migrants according to the most recent national survey on internal migration from 2015 - HM: vietnam.unfpa.org/sites/defa…

The increase is due to climate, less access to financial support from social benefit systems, and fewer children to help out. Some migrants say "a more inclusive climate response strategy could help address many of the problems that push older migrants away in the first place"
