It says a lot that they thought to legislate the protection of the militias arms in the 2nd Amendment, but not the protection of the militias themselves, which were so much the foundation of the nation that it was inconceivable they'd be abolished by 1903.

Something I notice about smart people is a care for etymology. Understanding the dialectical origin and meaning of a word is like being multilingual within one language - and I see such people oft inventing or stealing a word from another language to skirt linguistic determinism.
