Longue de 160 mètres, la grande frise du Parthénon représente la fête annuelle des Panathénées où défilaient chaque année des musiciens, des cavaliers et des animaux de sacrifice. Elle fut réalisée par le célèbre Phidias, auteur des statues monumentales chryséléphantines de Zeus à Olympie et d'Athéna pour le Parthénon athénien. Musée de l'Acropole, Athènes.

In Ljubljana, billboards usually sell influencers. So we put up different ones. Four Slovenians most people have never heard of. Each one changed the world from a country of 2 million people. 🧵

Those who learn to read and write Latin correctly - and to scan verse in particular - will never make this error. Ovid begins Tristia by addressing his book: “Parve (nec invideo) sine me, liber, ibis in urbem” “Little book, you will go without me - I don’t envy you - into the city”. (Not “you will go free…”) Contrast Persius, Satires 5.83: “līber ego.’ unde datum hoc sumis, tot subdite rebus?” “‘I am free,’ you say. Where do you get that idea, since you’re so oppressed?” (Not “I’m a book…”)
Replying to @tarastrahl
It is not, though, because the Latin word for book has a short i and the word for free has a long i. It’s like saying that the verb ‘polish’ is exactly the same word as the adjective ‘Polish’.

Sweden is officially trading screens and tablets for physical books and handwriting to reverse a decline in reading skills. Once at the forefront of hyper-digitalized learning, Sweden is engineering a dramatic pivot back to the basics in its classrooms. Concerned that an overreliance on digital tablets and screens has eroded reading comprehension and foundational writing skills, Swedish education officials are investing heavily in traditional printed textbooks. The national strategy aims to phase out digital devices for children under the age of six entirely, following a drop in international reading assessment scores. Experts point out that while technology was championed to level the playing field, its unrestricted use has instead led to shorter attention spans and reduced retention among younger learners. Scientific evidence strongly supports this retro transition. Research indicates that the physical act of handwriting activates complex neural networks governing motor skills, vision, memory, and language—cognitive benefits that are largely lost on a keyboard. Furthermore, reading from a printed page provides critical spatial cues that aid comprehension, unlike digital screens that often subject students to cognitive fatigue and constant distractions. While computers and tablets remain valuable tools for research and collaboration, educators worldwide are watching Sweden's massive reinvestment in physical books as a potential blueprint for a more balanced, science-backed approach to modern schooling. source: The Guardian. Switching off: Sweden says back-to-basics schooling works on paper.

From a classicist's viewpoint, the most wonderful thing about the Nolan extravaganza is that millions of people who only knew of Homer as a Simpson are now interested in Homer, and might even think of reading the Odyssey and learning something about Greek antiquity.
A lot of people have asked me for it (just kidding), so I'll write my review of the Odyssey film... ...In a couple of years, when I can watch it for free on TV, and I'm not giving my money to people who hate Western civilization.
