From Honest Abe and IKE to Elliot Richardson and John McCain, the GOP used to care about honor and character. America needs them to care again.

Dear @EricHolder, thank you for inspiring this account. Elliot Richardson was a 'Greatest Generation Republican' who cared. He held 6 WH cabinet posts, was elected AG of Mass. and even served as a stretcher bearer on Omaha Beach. When Nixon pushed him too far, he acted w/ honor.

🔥 Americans are rising up against the lawlessness of the Trump-Musk regime. A voter in Iowa to GOP Sen. Grassley: “My question to you is: Why do you believe President Trump is above the law? … Why have you not spoken out?”

Super Sky Point to the great George Foreman. This one hurts. A kid who arrived on the national scene when he won gold in Mexico City in 1968 and waved American flags. Who became the most feared boxer of his era after destroying Joe Frazier and Ken Norton in a combined four rounds. An invincible force who was outthought and outboxed by an allegedly washed up Muhammad Ali in Zaire in 1974 and who retired three years later, exhausted after another upset loss and changed by the subsequent religious experience that prompted him to retire in his prime. Big George left public life and went home to Texas for a decade before returning to boxing to raise money for his church. He was mocked for being fat and written off as a joke as he knocked over a slew of tomato cans. But he persevered to regain that heavyweight title he lost in that African night just over 20 years later at age 45 with a right hand that rendered an undefeated champion unconscious. “It happened! It happened!” shouted Jim Lampley as Michael Moorer laid on his back in a fog after meeting the same right hand that had separated so many other men from their senses. He learned how to smile during his second act. Now bald and cherubic, the same folks who once feared him and teased him suddenly loved him. He became a genial teddy bear who made millions hawking that damn grill. Goodbye to Big George, a man who achieved a dream he believed in for two decades - the dream only he thought was possible. A man whose goodness redeemed him from the darkness that prevented him from enjoying his initial fame, fortune, and acclaim. He won so much more in his middle age than that heavyweight crown he prized so much. I never met George Foreman but I loved him. Rest in peace, champ.

How EMBARRASSING for Trump. CNN just played clips of President Zelensky thanking the United States on multiple occasions after Trump claimed Zelensky was ungrateful. Marco Rubio had no response! It’s worth a watch.

Wow! John McCain’s former Chief of Staff Mark Salter just TORCHED Lindsey Graham: “I’ve haven’t referred to John McCain in my previous criticism of Lindsey, but I will tonight. John would be ashamed of you, Lindsey. I doubt he’d ever speak to you again. You’ve betrayed everything he believed in.”

"I’m fine" What Bob Gibson told Cardinals trainer Bob Bauman, when he came out to check on him. Bauman could see a dent in Gibson’s leg shaped suspiciously like a baseball. Dutifully, Bauman sprayed Gibson’s leg with ethyl chloride, a cooling substance used for the temporary relief of minor injuries. "I hate to tell you, Doc, but you’re spraying in the wrong place,” Gibson said. That was when Bauman showed him the dent in his leg. "It was odd that I couldn’t feel where I had been struck, but since I couldn’t feel it, I wasn’t particularly worried. I told Doc to put a little tape on it and let me get back to work." Gibson walked the next batter, Willie Stargell, before getting Bill Mazeroski to fly out to Curt Flood in center field. Gibson had a full count on Donn Clendenon when he attempted to put a little extra effort into the pitch. For the second time that inning, he collapsed. This time, his fibula had snapped completely, 3 ½ inches above his right ankle." "Stranger to the Game" Bob Gibson, Autobiography

February 28, 2025: The Day America Publicly Embraced Tyranny 🧵1/10: Friday, February 28, 2025, will be remembered as a day of infamy—a moment as dark in America’s history as December 7th, January 6th, and September 11th. This is the day the United States did not just abandon its leadership in the democratic world—it actively joined the forces working to dismantle it. For decades, America was the backbone of the international order. The world relied on Washington for security, stability, and the defense of democratic values. Allies coordinated with the U.S. before making major decisions. Dictators feared its economic leverage. Enemies calculated their moves carefully. That world is gone. Today, NATO allies plan around Washington, not with it. Dictators act without concern for American retaliation. And for the first time in modern history, the United States is no longer a democracy defending freedom—it is a power aligned against it. This is the moment when the U.S. officially passed the baton of global leadership, not to another democracy, but to the forces of authoritarianism. This is the moment it changed teams. theintellectualist.com/febru…

Zelensky has thanked Trump, Congress, and the American people many times. But let's be clear: when Trump and Vance said that THEY are trying to help Ukraine right now, and need to be thanked for the work personally, there are reasons to wonder. 1/ THREAD

MAGA is making the claim that if you watch the entire 50 minute video, Zelensky is the antagonist. This isn't true. At all. I was with Zelensky before this meeting and it's important to know his mindset heading in. 1/ A short 🧵on how the entire ambush went down.
If you watch the full Trump-Zelensky press conference, it is very clear that Zelensky, not Trump or Vance, became the antagonist. Both POTUS and VP were very respectful and cordial until Zelensky very publicly ignited a firestorm. It all starts at 40:30 1) Zelensky essentially rejects how VP described the mandate of POTUS to conduct foreign affairs, and he insinuates that Trump term one did nothing to stop Putin. 2) He then basically tells Vance that his ideas are faulty and that the administration's diplomacy won't work. These two comments are *deliberately antagonistic.* Everything was all well and good, but Zelensky took two major shots in a public forum, and they had to respond. And respond they did. Recall, this is the guy who interfered in our electoral politics and called VP "too radical," and bashed Trump in an interview with New York Mag weeks before the election. Zelensky is ENTIRELY at fault here. 100%.
