1) While I understand how much of the skepticism in Philly surrounds Embiid's health, I've been baffled by how national folks have lowered expectations on this group. They won 45 games last season with Embiid and Paul George each playing fewer than 40 games. They then replaced George with an apex wing and added LeBron James. I'm not going to overthink this. (Bookmark for when I inevitably underthink it.)

It’s pretty clear that on some level, the Lakers value Bronny James as a basketball player. They have no obligation whatsoever to LeBron James and the James family anymore. This offseason they had the opportunity to void Bronny James’ guaranteed money. They had the opportunity to waive him. They had the opportunity to roll with Dalton Knecht and Jaden Hardy instead. But he remains on the roster. I don’t see him as part of the guard rotation this season, but maybe they do.
They don’t put guys in playoff games as a gimmick 🤷♂️
Bronny dictated that he’d only accept a standard roster spot and he gets to stay with the parent team for certain games and then show up like a part time player for the g league team but when he does play he immediately starts and gets slotted as the primary guy. He is not living the existence most guys at his draft slot get. He gets a decent amount of special treatment cuz of who his father was. You’re disingenuous if you think otherwise

Knecht probably sucks but it should be noted he was never properly used under Redick. They tried to make him into a 3pt shooting specialist and that was never what his best strengths actually were. They also kept him a year and a half longer than necessary cuz they pretty much stopped trying to run anything for him after the rescinded trade and just threw him out there randomly and hoped he’d produce. All in all a very badly handled 1st round selection.
They couldn’t even find a team to take a flyer on him but sure 😂😂
It's insane to me that Dalton was waived before some of the other players on the roster. Look: you can argue all you want about "he should be a professional and 'get over it (the failed trade)' " but the reality is : he didnt wanna be in LA since that very moment. He asked out last year. He was checked out. Right, wrong, whatever. It has nothing to do with talent and it's unfortunate you see all these leaks about his "basketball processing skills and IQ..." ... i mean, those these things seemed fine during summer league rookie year...those things seemed fine during stretches in november/his rookie season when hes dropping 37 in nba games and starting.
i dunno man. it remains to be seen, but dont be shocked if he (quickly) joins a new team and (quickly) reminds everyone why he was a 1st round pick...

The Lakers decided to pick up Dalton Knecht’s $4.2 million team option for 2026-27 last October, assuming at the very least they would be able to trade him. After trying for a year, they obviously found no takers and now will keep his dead money on their books for the upcoming season if he is not claimed on waivers (he won’t be). Poor asset management has become a theme for this front office over the years.
