Israel’s Stakes in the Horn of Africa Conflict Why the War Could Reshape Israel’s Strategic Position in the Red Sea and the Middle East. redseanexus.org/article/isra…
Insightful piece by @JulianPecquet on Ethiopia–Eritrea tensions, the risk of a wider regional conflict, and Marco Rubio’s remarks labeling Ethiopia’s armed domestic opposition as “separatists” and linking it to terrorism. Glad to have contributed to the discussion.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described the armed opposition groups confronting Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as “separatists,” while invoking terrorism to explain Ethiopia’s security concerns.
The more important question is this: if Eritrea and Egypt are backing the anti-Abiy armed opposition coalition that Washington has characterized in terms of separatism and terrorism?

The Eritrean dictator, who enjoys an independent foreign policy, is orchestrating the coalition against Ethiopia, including domestic opposition groups, and drawing Egypt—whose strategic autonomy is constrained by its reliance on patrons such as the UAE—into his campaign against Addis Ababa. redseanexus.org/article/ever…

Israel should publicly clarify that it is not involved in the Ethiopia–Eritrea confrontation. Silence allows routine diplomacy to be twisted into evidence of Israeli interference—and gives the Eritrean dictator, Iran’s close ally, another opportunity to portray Israel as the hidden hand behind Ethiopia.

Pundits predict Abiy’s victory, but Eritrea’s dictator, and his Xmdo coalation may be drawing him into a war that could destroy his rule—and leave everyone a loser.

As the Houthis tighten their grip on the Bab el-Mandeb, a new security partnership with Somaliland, backed by Israeli intelligence capabilities, Emirati infrastructure, and investment in Somalia, could transform Red Sea security and shift Riyadh from reactive defense to proactive deterrence. jcfa.org/the-red-sea-frontie…

Reported Eritrean troop movements into Tigray may give Addis Ababa an opportunity to expose the dictator’s meddling in Ethiopia’s internal affairs. But war plays directly into the dictator’s hands, turning a PR opportunity into a potential military and political disaster.

Many pundits are lost in the war between Eritrea & Ethiopia. The different & constantly shifting alliances, including alliances that emerge & then fall apart, have made the conflict increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to understand. What Is Really Behind the Eritrea–Ethiopia War?
