Metro makes that meeting in DC a breeze. No traffic. No parking. No road rage. Just me, my headphones and some podcast time. #WeekWithoutDriving @wmata

Today, Director Stephen is taking the metro. One of the great things about public transit is that accessibility is built in with elevators, accessible entrances and platforms, and designated seating. #weekwithoutdriving

Monday afternoon meant a ride on Metro rail for Director Rogers, followed by a convenient trip home from a trusty #taxi. #WeekWithoutDriving

Meet Joel and Susan. ❤️ This adventurous couple has been married for 62 years! Now in their 80s, they still rely on public transit every day to get around. As members of Capitol Hill Village, a nonprofit that helps older adults stay active, connected, and engaged in their community, they're always on the go. From medical appointments to visits to their favorite museums, including @NMAAHC where Susan volunteers, Metro helps them get around and continue doing the things they love. For older adults who may be hesitant about going a week without driving, Susan has simple advice: "It would make your life much easier. You don't have to worry about traffic or parking because the system gets you where you want to go." And for Joel? The biggest benefit is the freedom to go where he wants, especially with his Senior Smart Trip discount: "For older individuals, what is it, $1.10 to get someplace? You can't do anything for $1.10!" During #WeekWithoutDriving, Joel and Susan remind us that public transit can help people stay active, connected, and adventurous at any age. Take inspiration from them and consider swapping a car trip for a ride on Metro now through Oct 8. 🚇🚍

Whether you’re taking the Metro, hopping on a Capital Bikeshare, or riding the bus – ditch the car keys this week for this year’s DC #WeekWithoutDriving! 🚆🚴‍♀️🚌 Let’s all help reduce traffic, cut down on emissions, and build a healthier community for everyone. We have amazing transit options in DC, but we want to know where the gaps are. @ggwash How are you getting around DC this week?

Lunch break walk for #WeekWithoutDriving reminds me how sidewalks shape how we move. Curb ramps and automatic signals help everyone, while blocked paths create real barriers. Whether you walk, roll, or ride  accessibility matters.

Director Rogers shared his morning commute for the #WeekWithoutDriving. Are you paying a Transportation Time Tax? 🤑🚌🚖@ggwash

Took a trip with our Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) chair, Olivia Norman, for some fall beverages. The #transportation time tax can look different for everyone, but for Olivia that often comes with being denied a ride due to her seeing eye dog, Monty. Join us on our journey to @childhoodcafede and get a glimpse into what a #weekwithoutdriving is trying to highlight: what it’s like when driving isn’t an option and how that can affect mobility. Taxis and rideshares may not refuse service based on a passenger’s disability or the presence of a service animal. Passengers who are refused service can file a report by emailing dfhv.complaints.dc.gov or calling (202) 645-7300. 📍🚘🐕‍🦺

The #WeekWithoutDriving challenge begins today. My commute looked a lot like it normally does with a short walk to Union Station, a smooth trip to Metro Center, and a couple of blocks walk to the Wilson Building.
Today’s the day! 🚗🚫 Take the National #WeekWithoutDriving pledge and see if you can go car-free or car-light from now through Oct. 8.    This annual challenge offers a chance to experience the barriers people face when they can’t drive and raise awareness of the great public transit options available in our region.    Every car-free mile helps tell the story of why accessible, reliable transportation matters. 💙🚆 🚍 Be sure to share your story and tag us in your photos! 📷

For the DC Week Without Driving, @Janeese4DC joined @ggwash organizers (and @tweetelissa) for a bus ride from Petworth to downtown. JLG emphasized her desire to get projects like the Georgia Ave dedicated lane done quickly: “We don’t need to study the study, let’s get it done.”

Happy October! On the first day of #WeekWithoutDriving, Director Jonathan Rogers biked to school drop-offs before continuing to a conference. This national campaign, established by Disability Rights Washington, aims to highlight transportation barriers faced by people with #disabilities, those with mobility challenges, and people who do not drive. Follow Director Rogers and DFHV staff as they share their #commutes, perspectives, and experiences throughout the week. 🚲 – at District of Columbia, USA
