In September, the Georgia Chamber brought together business and community leaders, economic developers, and policymakers at @ugatifton for the 2026 State of Rural Prosperity. 🌾 The event highlighted the opportunities and challenges facing rural Georgia, the importance of responsible economic development, and the leaders working everyday to strengthen communities across our state. We also recognized our 2026 Rural Community of the Year and three Rural Champions for their contributions to rural prosperity. Congratulations to this year’s honorees, and thank you to everyone working to advance opportunity and build a stronger Georgia across all 159 counties. #GAChamber #StateofRuralProsperity26

GEEARS has submitted public comments on proposed changes to Head Start! More than 20,000 Georgia children are served by Head Start and Early Head Start, which provide early learning alongside critical health, nutrition, disability, and family supports. During the public comment period, which closed October 6th, GEEARS raised concerns about sweeping proposed changes to Head Start standards, including changes to teacher-child ratios, developmental screenings, supports for children with disabilities, and more. Our message: Reducing unnecessary administrative burden is important, but streamlining should make it easier for programs to serve children and families—not weaken what makes Head Start work. Our comments incorporated feedback from Georgia Head Start leaders and highlighted opportunities to reduce administrative burden while protecting program quality. Thank you to everyone who submitted comments, shared their experiences, and advocated for a strong Head Start!

Head Start helps identify developmental concerns early. In 2025, Georgia programs referred 1,350 children for IDEA evaluations. A new federal proposal would eliminate the 45-day screening timeline and other requirements that help connect children to services. Today is the last day to submit a public comment. Head Start was built with families—not just for them. A new federal proposal would eliminate or weaken requirements for family engagement and parent involvement in program decision-making. Parents know what their children need. Keep them at the table. Take action now: geears.org/protectheadstart/ #ProtectHeadStart

Head Start’s comprehensive approach is part of what makes it work. A new federal proposal would eliminate or weaken standards for health, family, early intervention, and other supports. Streamlining shouldn’t mean losing what works. #ProtectHeadStart geears.org/protectheadstart/
