Happy World Engineering Day! Led globally by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (@wfeo), this day recognises the essential role engineers play in advancing sustainable development and improving quality of life worldwide. This year, celebrations bring the global engineering community together, including the official event taking place in Jakarta, highlighting collaboration, innovation and the profession’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Across clean energy, resilient infrastructure, digital transformation, water security and beyond, engineers continue to design and deliver solutions that shape a more sustainable and inclusive future. Today we recognise the expertise, creativity and impact of engineers everywhere who are building progress into the systems we rely on every day. #worldengineeringday #engineering #wfeo #innovation #WED26 #sustainability

🚨BREAKING: Siemens Mobility has officially opened its new £200 million train manufacturing plant and rail village in Goole. Expected to create 1,700 direct and supply chain jobs, 80% of London’s new Piccadilly Line trains will be assembled at the new site, with all future Siemens trains for the UK to be built in Goole. Alongside the opening, Siemens Mobility has announced an investment of up to £40 million in a state-of-the-art Bogie Assembly and Service Centre, further solidifying its commitment to the region. The new Bogie Assembly and Service Centre will incorporate and expand Siemens Mobility’s current capabilities to overhaul bogies from UK trains, including the 3,224 strong fleet of vehicles (572 trains) it maintains in the UK, and will also include new production lines for assembling bogies for new trains - a first for Siemens in the UK. This new investment will secure around 100 existing jobs and create up to a further 200. It is due to be operational towards the end of 2026. #UKmfg🇬🇧

New factories, major investments, contract wins, export successes, and new jobs are being announced each and every week. The legacy media may not be interested in celebrating and promoting our brilliant British manufacturing sector but we certainly are! This week, British sports car manufacturer Caterham opened a new multi-million pound factory and global HQ in Dartford, Kent. The new 54,000 sq ft facility - which has increased the firm's production capacity by 50% - features the very latest paint booths, an engine shop, a parts warehouse and 33 individual bays, where each car builder is responsible for the complete assembly of a Seven.

UPDATE: Rolls-Royce Submarines is creating more than 200 jobs at two new sites in Cardiff and Glasgow to meet the growth in demand from the Royal Navy and to support the recently announced multi-billion pound AUKUS contract. The locations of satellite offices in Cardiff and Glasgow, funded by the Ministry of Defence, have been selected to help access the skilled talent pools in both regions, with more than 100 jobs being created in each city. Last year, Rolls-Royce announced plans to almost double the size of its Raynesway site in Derby which will create 1,170 direct jobs and hundreds more across the UK's supply chain. The huge expansion is required to meet the growth in demand from the Royal Navy and to supply all the nuclear reactor plants that will power the new attack submarines as part of AUKUS - the recently announced tri-lateral agreement between Australia, the UK and US. Rolls-Royce Submarines currently employs more than 4,000 people and designs, manufactures and provides in-service support to the pressurised water reactors that power every boat in the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.
