Today in music: Rotterdam (Or Anywhere) by The Beautiful South from the 1996 album Blue is the Colour. Released 30 years ago this week, it was the Hull band’s fifth studio album. Written almost entirely by Paul Heaton and Dave Rotheray it was hailed by critics at the time as another dark effort, reflecting the turmoil in Heaton's life at the time and in line with 1994’s Miaow. A major hit, it went to No.1 in the UK and was the ninth-highest-selling album of 1996. Rotterdam (Or Anywhere) had Jacqui Abbott on lead vocals and became one of the band’s best-known songs internationally. It reached No.5 in the UK and was in the Top-40 for nine weeks. #Music #Rotterdamoranywhere #TheBeautifulsouth #Blueisthecolour #rock #rocknroll #pop #1990s #90s #1990smusic #90smusic #PaulHeaton #Daverotheray #Davehemingway #Jacquiabbott #Welcometothebeautifulsouth #Choke #0898BeautifulSouth #Miaow #Carryonupthecharts #Quench #Paintingitred #Gaze #GolddiggasHeadknoddersandPholksongs #Superbi #ALittleTime #Songforwhoever
