i will answer genuine questions patiently; stupidity disguised as mockery and displays of superiority will be met with a fitting response.
i'm a fan, but above all, i'm antiracist. if i've ever been rude to those who refuse to see the problem, i don't care at all. i'm a student of minority causes, i do research projects on race and gender. i KNOW what i'm talking about.
deny the exclusion of gaz and the racism within the community and the company is to admit that you are also racist. it's a structural prejudice; it's not enough to simply not be racist, you have to be anti-racist, otherwise you're just another one in your own bubble of prejudice.
one important detail is that the actor who plays gaz is an openly queer black man who has never stopped talking about it. yet, the fandom still excludes both him and his character.
soap's death was also bad, however, even after death, he continued to receive skins, attention from the fandom and the company, and more and more products. meanwhile, gaz's death was used as an excuse for him not even being a playable character in the game's combat mode.
he earned the title of captain, which should have been great for highlighting the character, but the entire game revolves around a forced sentimentality of a never-developed relationship between ghost and price. gaz death was quick, poorly done, and a way to finally erase him.
gaz consistently received fewer skins, less promotional content, less fan art, and fewer products. he was gradually erased by both fans and the company simply because he was a black character.
gaz was created to be the character who doubts his captain's actions, torn between his morals and the orders given by his superiors. but the plot that should have been his was given to the character ghost, who never even received enough development to be in that place.
it's normal not to like a certain character, but what happens with gaz isn't (just) personal hate, it's EXCLUSION. activision, realizing that black doesn't sell, also decided to erase gaz's importance, aiming only for profit.
racism is a structural violence, meaning it is ingrained in the culture in such a way that, even if a black character is well-written, they will not receive the same love from fans because the structure of a racist society makes it difficult for people to see black people.
but why has this changed?
the community's reception of a black character like gaz in a game like call of duty was notoriously exclusionary. even the progressist part of the fandom acted as if he were a disposable character for the story and the group dynamic.
in the first two games of the MW reboot, gaz received notable prominence as a character; it was obvious that the creators' plan was to highlight him and serve as the moral compass of the team. even iconic characters like ghost didn't get as much personality development as him.
How could Gaz die because of racism if other characters also died in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? A thread.
understand how structural racism helped orchestrate the exclusion of a character who could have been one of the most iconic black characters in recent times.

This old ass WIP I should get back to finishing #pricegaz
i decided it would be better to transform the daily into an archive page, which gives me more freedom to post things that don't depend on daily consistency.
i also changed the info carrd and made a collaborative playlist for add songs that match our cap!
