โ€œTaxation is often presented as technical. But taxation is fundamentally political, with gendered impacts. It determines who contributes, who benefits from public resources, and whose needs are prioritised and what services governments can provide.โ€ - Maureen Mburu, @GA4TJ

How can the UN Tax Convention rebalance taxing rights, strengthen source-country taxation, including in the digital economy, and advance tax justice? Join us this Thursday at the ongoing #AnnualMeetings as we chat the role of international financial institutions in supporting countries to pursue more equitable and progressive tax reforms. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ : 15th October 2026 โฒ๏ธ : 1:00 - 2:30 PM ICT/UTC+7 ๐Ÿ“ : 2-2IID Virtual Participation: lnkd.in/g_J2C3Kv #OurLivesNotBudgetItems #FeministEconomicJustice #FeministClimateJustice #MakePollutersPay #TheFaceOfAusterity #IMFWB2026 #StopAusterity
The 2026 #AnnualMeetings mark over 80 years of the Bretton Woods institutions that continue to shape economic policies that directly affect womenโ€™s lives, the magnitude of their care work, access to basic public services, and even who lives and who dies. Years of advocacy have influenced these institutions to recognise the need for gender equality. However, this recognition comes not from a rights perspective but from the calculation that such equality will improve growth without truly addressing gendered impacts. As we prepare for our session at the #AnnualMeetings on 15th October 2026, we share our policy brief on Feminist Pathways Towards a Fairer Global Tax Order, which provides background on the UN Framework on International Tax Cooperation (UNFCITC), the gender dimensions of international tax injustice, and how the UNFCITC can advance gender equality. The current global tax architecture has profound implications for gender and global inequality, shaping how taxing rights and revenues are distributed across countries. Developing countries, particularly in Africa, often generate substantial value through natural resources, labor and markets, yet retain limited taxing rights over resulting revenues.ย  This constrains public investment and can deepen gender and social inequalities. Join us for a session during the #AnnualMeetings in Bangkok, Thailand titled: "Addressing Global Inequality through Fair Taxing Rights: The Case for a Progressive UN Tax Convention". This session will explore how a progressive UN Tax Convention could rebalance taxing rights, strengthen source-country taxation, including in the digital economy, and advance tax justice. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ: 15th October 2026 โฒ๏ธ: 1:00 - 2:30 PM ICT/UTC+7 ๐Ÿ“: 2-2IID Virtual Participation: worldbankgroup.zoom.us/j/913โ€ฆ

This week, FEMNET joined the 14th Pan African Conference on Tax and Illicit Financial Flows in Dakar, Senegal, advancing conversations on a transformative tax justice agenda for Africa. Together with Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), we co-convened a session on Tax Justice and the Social Organisation of Care, exploring how tax systems can better recognise, resource and support care. The message was clear: tax justice is not only about raising revenue it is about building economies that prioritise care, dignity, equity and collective wellbeing. FEMNET remains committed to advancing a feminist tax justice agenda across Africa and globally. #TaxJustice #FeministEconomies #Femonomics #EconomicJustice #PAC2026

Launched at the 14th Pan-African Conference on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (#PAC2026 ) in Dakar, Senegal, the strategy puts people and development at the heart of tax justice โ€” connecting taxation with public services, health financing, climate justice, equity and shared prosperity. The strategy is built around seven interconnected priorities, from transforming the international financial architecture and strengthening natural resource governance to advancing progressive taxation, health financing and a stronger, more resilient TJNA network. As TJNA Co-founder and Founding Executive Director @alvinmosioma reflected: โ€œWhen I look back at where we started, I think of it as planting a tree. We planted it knowing that the fruit would come later, benefiting our children, our grandchildren and generations to come. Today, the tree we planted almost twenty years ago is bearing fruit,โ€ย Mosiomaย said, celebrating the networkโ€™s growth and the collective effort that has sustained it. ๐ŸŒฑย From planting the seeds of tax justice to shaping Africaโ€™s fiscal future โ€” the work continues.
