UNESCO-designated sites are essential to climate stability.

Spain & Portugal now have a joint Blue Carbon inventory, compiling harmonised OC stocks (biomass & soils) and soil sequestration rates for seagrass meadows and salt marshes. The data base is open, ready for policy & restoration.

Members of @G3ECA from Andalucía contributed to a #NACAO good practice assessing the pre‑operational #BlueCarbon stock in a degraded salt marsh of the Guadalete River. This baseline will support #CarbonCreditCertification and guide #restoration works starting this April.
Zostera noltei is returning to the Oria estuary 🌱
AZTI and the Municipality of Orio restored Zostera noltei meadows using three techniques: sod transplants, seed sowing, and planting detached shoots. Sediment sampling will help track long‑term carbon storage.
Various members of G3ECA joined the International Workshop on Seagrass Restoration in Andalusia (Dec 2–3, Seville), contributing to the regional roadmap for restoring Posidonia, Zostera & Cymodocea habitats. 🌱🌊
