In large part because of the ACA, healthcare is costlier and more fragmented than ever.
Take all the credit you want for the ACA.
You enabled large corporates who are now functioning as healthcare’s modern day robber barons.
And you did it with henchmen that admitted that they took advantage of lack of transparency.
It’s worse in every measure than what I wrote about in 2017: inquirer.com/philly/blogs/he…
I know it can feel like a different era sometimes. But fifteen years ago, I signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Now nearly 50 million people have received health care through the ACA.
With everything going on right now, it’s easy to feel like regular folks can’t make a difference – but the Affordable Care Act is a reminder that change is possible when we keep fighting for progress.

One of my biggest regrets was voting for President Obama in 2008 as a medical student & celebrating the passage of the ACA
Little did I know the carnage it would wreck on the medical profession and my future patients. I had no idea then that the ACA was written to strip physicians of their autonomy, boost insurer profits & drive healthcare consolidation
End result 15 years later is a more expensive healthcare system with less competition resulting in lower quality, less efficient care for patients. Coverage is not care!

Impressive work using ML!!!
Our study identifies variables predictive of achieving adequate aneurysm occlusion following WEB deployment and then integrates them into a predictive calculator (bit.ly/3WQDr3d) that estimates this likelihood. Great work! @SNISinfo @cvsection

Mini-pterional versus supraorbital "keyhole" craniotomies for microsurgical clipping of cerebral aneurysms. The mini-pterional is a workhorse, much like the pterional. Both the PKC and SOKC --> similar outcomes. @RediRahmani @JulianGendreau @mtlawton

Really excited to highlight TWO original articles published this weekend in @WorldNeurosurg! The first uses mixed-effects models to predict readmission in scoliosis surgery, the second uses gradient-boosting to assess lactate/pyruvate ratios in ICH! Articles below: – at Los Angeles, CA

Great article. I used to perform RQM in my previous clinic, which allowed for easy temporal bony decompression. In my new clinic we do RA, which is also good but such a huge wound surface. And temporal bony decompression is much more osteoclastic.

Appreciate the @TheJNS highlight! There certainly was a learning curve as early adopters of single-position lateral 2019-2022; glad to say our current protocols now continue to show equivalent accuracy compared to prone for those interested in SPS robotics.

Amazing! I recall when this came in and @RahmaniRedi reviewed the imaging with Dr. Ehresman and I in clinic. Just another day of consults in the Lawton clinic! For nasal polyp removal gone wrong turned carotid bypass, they certainly wound up in the best of hands! @BarrowNeuro
