Ben Affleck just got the ultimate Batman endorsement.
Frank Miller likes his Batman.
Affleck was told on CBS Mornings that the Dark Knight Returns creator approves of his take on the character.
His reaction?
“That’s probably the highest form of flattery it could possibly have.”
Affleck says Batman v Superman was built directly around Miller’s work.
“That movie was entirely geared around and based on those Miller books.”
He also credits The Dark Knight Returns with changing comics from lighter material into something aimed at adults.
The timing is hard to miss.
The Skydance merger is now complete, Batman has been all over the new company’s rollout, and our insiders say Zack Snyder still wants Affleck for a Dark Knight Returns adaptation.
We’ve also been told the project could grow from two movies into a trilogy.
Miller wrote the book.
Affleck wore the armor.
And now Miller has given his Batman the stamp of approval.

Ben Affleck says there’s an ongoing “tension” at DC over whether comic book movies should be made for adults or family-friendly audiences:
“It seems to be an ongoing question, and I don’t know the answer: Do you go all the way to a hard-R rating like ‘Joker’? Or do it like Marvel, which does something broad, unless you’re talking about ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’?
The interesting thing with the DC characters [comes down] to the legacy of Frank Miller. There seems to be more tension between, ‘Are we doing the grown-up version or the one that’s open to kids?’ There’s a risk of being a feathered fish.”
