🇫🇷 AMX-13 Obusier de 105 (ACL-2) Developed in the early 1950s, the AMX-13 Obusier de 105 was a French experimental fire-support tank intended to provide capabilities comparable to the American M4 Sherman (105). The project introduced the ACL-2 turret and a new 105mm howitzer, both of which were also considered for the Panhard EBR. Despite promising performance, the turret's cramped interior and limited gun elevation restricted its indirect-fire capabilities. With existing 75mm-armed vehicles and artillery considered sufficient, the project was ultimately canceled. Built on the AMX-13 chassis, the vehicle carried a 105mm D.1056 howitzer in a fully traversable ACL-2 turret, operated by a three-man crew, two of whom occupied the turret. Armor protection included 25mm along the turret sides and 20mm on the roof, with frontal protection intended to resist 20mm cannon fire. The gun demonstrated performance comparable to the Sherman's 105mm howitzer during trials at 200 and 1000m, while the turret offered rapid traverse for engaging targets. Although slightly heavier than the standard AMX-13 FL-10, the vehicle retained generally good mobility, with its limited reverse speed remaining a drawback.
