Fundsmith LLP UK retweeted
In today’s FT Adviser, David Thorpe writes an entire article about the ‘10% fee increase’ at SSON.LN’s conversion of the fund.
Problem #1: 10% of 0.9% is only 0.09% and unworthy of being a news story.
Problem #2: The only reason this 0.09% rise is happening is because Terry Smith admirably is giving investors a 10% capital gain (i.e., 1,000 bps).
So David — would you rather have a +10% return and pay 0.09% more in fees, or skip the 1000 basis points gain and save 9 basis points?
And if that wasn’t clear enough: the 1,000 bps gain could be invested in say, UK gilts that gives additional per year gains that are 4× the fee increase.
So here’s a rewritten title: ‘Fundsmith delivers a 10% one-time gain and additional gains per year, thank you Terry!’
There’s no better way to fix this article than to remove it.
