How does @UvA_Amsterdam reconcile its awarding of a honorary doctorate to @shoshanazuboff with its recent collaborations with @Huawei and @PalantirTech ? fundingmatters.tech/ fundingmatters.tech/statemen…
The UvA is proud to announce that it will award an honorary doctorate to American social theorist Shoshana Zuboff @shoshanazuboff for her groundbreaking research into the power of technology conglomerates and their system of 'surveillance capitalism'. go.uva.nl/3qLahlm
The @UvA_Amsterdam and @VUamsterdam proudly work together with a company that facilitates surveillance, censorship, and human rights abuses on several continents. fundingmatters.tech/ #FundingMatters

Huawei, actively involved in the oppression & violation of the Uighur people and in the business of building global surveillance infrastructures, has joined a collaboration with UvA & VU. @fundingmatters asks:how come? Universities must do better! Please discuss, support & spread

We really need to have a discussion in the uk about what education & reeearch are for. Because if securing a permanent job & decent pension mean a career conducting research to benefit companies like BAE & perpetuate suffering of others, I don’t want it.

suggestion: it's time for all the tech firms who are interested in sponsoring privacy conferences to arrange their own. @palantir, @google, @microsoft, @facebook: convene wild/domesticated academics to discuss all your burning questions. we are here for you. #fundingmatters

this is a good idea. could you encourage them to make the questionnaire public? it's a useful tool for anyone interested in #fundingmatters
An organization we @Hewlett_Found are talking w/about a grant has sent us a "donor screening questionnaire" w/lots of smart questions about our policies on funding levels, overhead, proposal & reporting requirements & lobbying restrictions. What a great turning of the tables!

What will it take for privacy conferences to remove these companies from their sponsorship list? see @lessig: How academic corruption works. chronicle.com/article/How-Ac… #fundingmatters

At the #APC2018 panel on #fundingmatters Palantir employees claimed they work for the department of ICE that is not involved in the separation of children from their parents. One infograph sufficient to show the absurdity of that argument.
