Please don't remove students from physical education, music, Arts, or other classes to remediate them in other areas. These classes are just as important for overall education and may be their favorite classes and one reason they like school.

September is Attendance Awareness Month because being in school is vital to learning. Send your children to school on time every day unless they are sick. Absences add up, and excessive absences may affect receiving credit for classes or promotion to the next grade. #oneCCPS

Students know when a teacher is real. They have a radar for authenticity.
* Admit when you've made a mistake
* Say Thank You
* Don't pretend to know it all
* Listen to them/ ask them about their hobbies
* Use humor/ stories
* Let them know/ see you really care
What else?

This is posted in the Richmond airport. If colleges & universities are no longer requiring a standardized test score, please tell me why our 8-10 year olds are taking standardized test? Adjust or put people with the innovative mindset in those position to make change happen.

Update on what appears to be the 396th day of 2020 ... and, yes, VA, there are still snow days as needed, even in a virtual learning world!
After upwards of 5 inches of snow today in some parts of the county, #oneCCPS will be closed Mon, Feb. 1 for in-person & virtual learning.

Today we honor John Lewis, a man who has long inspired the pursuit of justice. A 9th grader, Jaden, helped us bring the story and legacy of John Lewis to students everywhere with this lesson.

Disappointed that the special session announcement from @GovernorVA includes no mention of K-12 education. Schools are looking for guidance & leadership. Itโs imperative that we work diligently to support safe reopening efforts including full-time, in-person learning.

Parents- as the school year is coming to an end, I want to remind you to put your childโs social-emotional needs ahead of everything else. Itโs been a stressful few months for everyone. No child is ahead and no child is behind. Take the summer to laugh and love on one another. โฅ๏ธ

I wish I had insightful words, the reality is there are no damn words. How many more names & faces without names will it take for it to stop, to stop the senseless killings & trauma that is seen & not seen? There is no place, no tolerance or exceptions for racism & discrimination

Just like moons hidden in the dark,
there will be times
when you, too,
will question your place
in the universe.
but...
Did you know that you are sun rays,
calm, like ocean waves,
tough, like montaรฑas
magic, like stars in space?

Me, writing an email:
I'm using an exclamation point so you know I'm friendly and excited! But now I'm using a period so that you know I'm not crazy. Here's another sentence with a period as a buffer, proving my normalness. Thanks so much!

I donโt know what will happen this fall when schools across the US should be opening, but I do know that worrying about it will not change anything. Try your best to enjoy your summer break when it comes and focus on your mental health.
