And, post AI, this is the right amount of engineers. Large companies will be large in revenue, not people.
Twitter's Eng org used to be TWO THOUSAND engineers. Now it's ~25 engineers and a few designers and PMs. I knew the cuts were big but this is blowing my mind.

Exactly right, sales is not going away. And people want the human reassurance of a professional. Turbo Tax has been around for decades and millions still go to HR Block for the human touch. Let alone medical or your children visitation rights? Few are risking that on a model.

Beyond just chat, Claude Cowork or open source Goose with extensions and MCP servers can be a big unlock at having AI handle process and paperwork for you. The chat performance varies a bit by model but not necessarily super major. Finding how to let AI automate your process work is probably the next big unlock for you.

No more brother wars.
111 years ago today, English and German soldiers stopped fighting during World War I, meeting on No Man’s Land to exchange gifts and play a game of football on Christmas Day.

As BowTied Bull says, Efficiency is key. Obviously, you can’t trim down the time it takes to conduct the interview. HR wants a full 1 hour technical interview, so they’re gonna get it. You can use the same question each time and once the candidate is deep into it, you’re on autopilot and can keep doing other tasks as they solve away. But, the feedback writing afterwards? That hour is entirely in your control. Leveraging AI (generative LLMs like ChatGPT) turn out to be a phenomenally effective way to cut 30 - 60 minutes of feedback writing time down to 5 minutes. But, and this is critical, you must still block off in your calendar the full hour after an interview for “Interview Feedback”. Remember, you are not becoming more efficient to benefit your employer. You now have 55 minutes to do other promotable work, or hit that KVM switch and build wifi-money during your 9-5. Colleagues, managers, and HR will be none the wiser, at least for the next many months or years while AI gradually increase awareness and usage along the usual S-curve of technology adoption. Regardless, this is a perfect opportunity to juice your interview count and pad your next promo packet. Full article: bowtiedstack.com/p/juice-you… Powered by @PoasterApp

What even is overworking? Multiple fulltime W2s at once. Employers clueless, IRS thrilled. Taxes hit hard first year—double income means plan ahead. For contracts, corp setup limits liability and optimizes taxes. DYOR by state/country. Reddit's r/Overwork has the real stories: wins, fails, tradeoffs. Learn so you don't screw up. And yeah, KVM switch is non-negotiable. IYKYK. Short-term boost? Hell yeah. Long-term multiple W2s? Demanding—meetings, employee vibes vs hired gun freedom. Risk losing your optimized primary (mine's <2h/day, exceeds expecs quarterly). Stories abound of second job snitching, both firing you. I mix W2 and contracts by season. You decide, anon. But AI lets you max earnings without burning out—fade effort at primary, crush consulting. No reward sans risk, but play smart. Push checkers forward daily. For W2, AI sketches designs, paperwork. New foundational models every 3 weeks—stay ahead. Local AI via Llama.cpp for privacy/speed (shoutout BowTiedCrocodile). Agent apps run commands, apply edits unaided. It's a new era. Build that wifi-money, land promos. DMs open for coaching if you're serious. Full article: bowtiedstack.com/p/wifi-mone… Powered by @PoasterApp

Layoffs are looming again, and I've got tactics brewing to help you dodge the axe—stuff that's kept me employed through multiple rounds. Next post drops soon on BowTied Fullstack, but spoiler: it's about playing the game smarter, not harder. In tech, survival isn't just about output; it's about visibility, alliances, and timing your moves. I've stacked wins by documenting everything, networking internally like it's outreach, and always having that side hustle firewall ready. Meanwhile, if you're entry-level, check my guide on landing that first coding gig. Then level up to promo evidence. Once you're in, KVM switch to wifi-money builds—because why not monetize your skills outside the cubicle? Fullstack out. Full article: bowtiedstack.com/p/how-to-th… Powered by @PoasterApp

Most tech people focus on hard skills (Leet code…). We’ll cover a bit of that. But mostly, folks are mentally lazy (myself included) and don’t want to do the harder work of sorting out their soft skills (managing upwards, promo packets, office politics…) and ultimately their life skills. I'm a staff fullstack engineer at a big tech company. I regularly work across backend, web, dev-ops and occasionally dabble with mobile. I went from lagging my peers who I kept seeing getting promoted while my manager said I 'wasn't ready' and nearly getting fired for insubordination, to being promoted past peers and being one of the youngest at the staff level.
