Adding Cal and Stanford to the ACC was so dumb that it still defies explanation. Who actually sat in a room, looked at a map, looked at the economics, looked at the travel, and said: Yes. This is the future of the Atlantic Coast Conference. And were Cal and Stanford really so horrified by the thought of joining forces with Washington State and Oregon State that flying non-revenue teams 2,500 miles across the country seemed like the more sensible option? The whole thing is ridiculous. College sports managed to destroy regional conferences, inflate travel costs, punish athletes, and produce a league stretching from Berkeley to Boston— all in the name of “stability.” So dumb.
