While riding along the Second Niger Bridge, I noticed some people emerging from the bush further ahead. The road was lonely, and although I couldn’t tell who they were or what they were doing, I felt it was safer to turn back rather than take chances. This highlights one of the biggest concerns about travelling by road in Nigeria: the uncertainty. Sometimes, you don’t know who you’re approaching. Are they police officers, soldiers, local government task force officials, herdsmen, or people with criminal intentions? It’s difficult to tell, especially on isolated roads. Our roads need regular security patrols, proper surveillance, functional emergency response systems, and clearly identifiable security checkpoints. Nigerians should be able to travel from one state to another without constantly worrying about their safety. #roadsafety #nigeria #infrastructures
