I agree with your intent. The issue is we are not even moving in this direction, even imperfectly. Since there is always a new Octez version with every new protocol, technically even our on-chain governance is on the honor system as well. All bakers must act to not be left behind. Alternatively, we have approved UAPO’s before, which is adopting a proposal we didn’t vote on, technically. Other chains update without on-chain governance but the upgrade only happens when enough nodes signal. So, like, how do you wanna skin the cat: forwards or backwards? It still gets done with some kind of governance. But yea, exploring nice fully automated or hybrid ecosystem funding systems should be what we’re doing. Even using the receipt function to mint funding spendable by some DAO like The Ecosystem DAO. But the problem is core dev is so unapproachable and cold for these things. They have their marching orders that they can barely keep up with. Why would they help and make their lives harder in the process? They need these things to be embraced by their bosses first. All that to say, other ecosystems are imperfectly moving toward something approaching DAO ecosystem funding while we are 👏 not 👏 even 👏 trying 👏 And we have all the knobs already 😂 😭
