Friends of Coleridge Summer Conference Call for Papers is out! Conference will be July 26-29 at North London Collegiate School.
Coleridge's 5th great-grandson will be marking the poet's 254th birthday with a recital at Highgate, the poet's resting place: this Wednesday 21 October.
The FOC was happy to have a presence at a recent event at Hestercombe House. The event was organised by Screen Somerset (Somerset Council’s film office) and the Hestercombe Gardens Trust. More than 200 people watch the film Pandaemonium over four screenings.
Happy Semester Start to all scholars, formal and otherwise! May our work be accompanied by hope: "Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve,
And Hope without an object cannot live."- STC, "Work Without Hope"
Keith Nicholson, a journalist and rare book collector, acquired an edition of Coleridge's Poetical Works in July in South Wales. The book appears to be inscribed by Barnard John Seymour Coleridge to his daughter Audrey Jane Coleridge, great great niece of the poet, in 1893.
There's still time to join the Friends of Coleridge this year and to receive this year's Coleridge Bulletins. Join us! friendsofcoleridge.com/join-…
O pure of heart! thou need'st not ask of me
What this strong music in the soul may be!
...Joy, virtuous Lady! Joy that ne'er was given,
Save to the pure, and in their purest hour...

I have heard of reasons manifold
Why Love must needs be blind,
But this the best of all I hold--
His eyes are in his mind.- STC, To a Lady, Offended by a Sportive Observation that Women Have No Souls

..But green leaves, and blossoms, and sunny warm weather,
And singing, and loving—all come back together.
But the Lark ... sings; and for ever sings he—
"I love my Love, and my Love loves me!"- STC, Answer to a Child's Question
...Silent with swimming sense; yea, gazing round
On the wide landscape, gaze till all doth seem
Less gross than bodily; and of such hues
As veil the Almighty Spirit, when yet he makes
Spirits perceive his presence.- STC, This Lime-Tree Bower, My Prison

My eyes make pictures when they're shut:--
I see a fountain large and fair,
A Willow and a ruined Hut,
And thee, and me, and Mary there.
O Mary! make thy gentle lap our pillow!
Bend o'er us, like a bower, my beautiful green Willow! -STC, A Day Dream
What time the pale moon sheds a softer day
Mellowing the woods beneath its pensive beam:
For mid the quivering light 'tis ours to play,
Aye dancing to the cadence of the stream.- STC, Songs of the Pixies
