It's been very warm and dry here lately. Yesterday, we hit a record high of 90. Mr. Squirrel must have been very thirsty to risk a drink on my porch.

This makes me sad. Goodbye Marmalade. 😿🌈
MARMALADE 🌈🐾 7/1/2013 - 10/10/2026 At 7:12pm Cole came and guided Marm over the rainbow bridge with him. Thankfully, he was at home being cuddled with us both as he transitioned. We are in shock still and will update more later… Hug your furkids extra from us today 🖤🧡

Happy #WorldAnimalDay 🐾 Slate and Sasha, not related - even though they both rock the #TNR ear tip, are feral cats who were rescued from the streets and now call the sanctuary their forever home! #BeKind #Rescue #Cats

Sonny and Oliver 8 years ago. It had only been 2 weeks since these ferals were trapped. They were so happy to be together. #caturday #SonnyandOliver

When it comes to Sonny, I feel like Dr. Rick in those Progressive commercials—except instead of stopping him from turning into his parents, I’m trying to train him not to annoy his brothers. Really, Sonny, you don't have to play-swipe them every time they get within your paw's reach! 😹

Goodbye, Jeffrey. Though I was just a visitor in your life, your joyful greetings made me feel like I was your favorite person. You were such a good boy. The pain is gone now. Rest easy, old friend.

Backyard kitty. Beautiful. 😹
Well, that’s not something you see in the backyard every day. Mike Miller near Biwabik in northern Minnesota captured this lynx wandering right up close to their house. “It almost seemed like it walked slowly right up toward the window to make sure we got a good look at it.”

This guy is a relatively new and frequent visitor to my porch. He's unsocialized, but doesn't seem to be too afraid of me. I can walk up to about 12 feet of him before he moves away. 😸

These rugged men from the old West have a kitty. I'll bet that this black cat was the real boss of the frontier cabin. 😾
1899. Williams Fork, northwest Colorado. Look closely. This photo has almost every ingredient of the old West packed into one frame. Rifles. Dogs. Rugged men. A deer hanging beside the cabin. And somehow, a cat sitting off to the side like it owns the place. This hunting party was photographed near Williams Fork, about 10 miles south of present-day Craig, Colorado. At the time, this was still Routt County. Moffat County would not be created until 1911. Northwest Colorado was already becoming famous hunting country. Theodore Roosevelt himself would come to the region just a couple years later, in 1901. But what gets me about this photograph is how normal all of this looks. The deer was not just a trophy. It was dinner. Jerky. Meat for the days ahead. The rifles were not decorations. The dogs were not just pets. The cabin was not a weekend getaway. This was life. And few of us today can really imagine what that meant. There was no quick grocery run. No delivery. No convenience waiting around the corner. You had to provide. You had to work. You had to keep moving forward. And if you wanted dinner.... You might have to go earn it first.
