Simonetta Vespucci died of tuberculosis in 1476 at age 22. She was the undisputed beauty of Renaissance Florence. Botticelli never married. He painted her face from memory for decades, using her as his model for Venus and Flora. Before his death in 1510, Botticelli asked to be buried right at her feet in the Church of Ognissanti. They granted his wish, joining his life's work to her forever.
