This hurts to write (let’s call it tough love), but I believe that in full transparency, in advocating for EVs one must also acknowledge the downsides. My company leases a BYD Sealion (and other EV’s on the fleet) - on paper, it’s great value for money. A Chinese car @BYDCompany leased via @santanderuk But then we had an issue with a door harness - took the car to Hartwell Bracknell; they can’t fix the car - it’s been off the road 71 days chasing faults around the car. Santander don’t want to answer the phone (2.5hrs on hold today) and BYD are unhelpful with a car that has a seemly a catastrophic fault. The cars a lemon (and frankly so are the leasing company and the dealer), the question really is, are all their cars lemons or is this a one-off? Clearly BYD aren’t ready for scale in U.K. and don’t have the dealer back up you’d expect of a mass brand - so as much as I advocate for low cost EVs, my advice at least in the short term, is steer clear of the BYD! The same might be said of Santander leases and Hartwell dealers! I will of course update you on any progress!

Read this powerful article by @thetimes , and reflect on what has been shared.. This is not just “persecution by (extremely clumsy) process” imposed upon active-duty SAS operators fighting to detain vicious ISIS thugs in an active war zone, but also an example of performative self-immolation initiated by the most senior UK Special Forces officer at the time (G Jenkins) as self-serving exercise in what HE calls ‘transparency’…… So, if someone, anyone (quite possibly an enemy) within an active war zone says the SAS killed an unarmed man, then the so-called ‘senior leaders’ (some, as in this case, with near-zero combat experience) within the Whitehall-based ‘UK system’ desperate to demonstrate something that they call ‘transparency’ (or whatever else floats the MOD’s boat), will automatically launch an aggressive RMP operation to detain the SAS men involved…. Not on the basis of any hard evidence (there is no crime scene, no bodies, no bullets etc), but purely on distant, uncorroborated hearsay and remote, delayed analysis of operational reports; all supported by desk-bound, chinless leaders that seemingly care more about how they will (personally) look in an MOD promotion board than trying to properly understand the circumstances faced by the SAS men and defend them accordingly. What a gift this utterly pathetic weakness, low threshold investigative process and twisted self-defeating system gives to our many enemies….and what an awful message it sends to those that still volunteer to fight on our all of our behalves….

#hantapolice this van clearly has used a yellow number plate screw to make a G look like a C to match their company name. If you have any speeding tickets for COIIYER you know where to send them

With diesel at £1.99 a litre the tax is now 86 p. The tax is well above the budget estimate. Cut the tax to stop government hitting drivers and putting up inflation.

"Appointment of former Yorkshire Water boss and Openreach chairman part of latest attempt by London & Valley Water to win support for its contentious plan." It sometimes beggars belief how stupid supposedly clever people can be. The American VC funds now running Thames Water are trumpeting the former CEO of Yorkshire Water as the saviour of the company. Really? During and following Liz Barber's spell as CEO of Yorkshire Water the company has, * "loaned" £940 million, of bill payers money I suspect, to the company's Hong Kong owners, without telling the regulator. * Is now in such financial peril that it is on Ofwat's "Enhanced concern", list. * Is £7.5 billion in debt. * Is putting up customers bills by 41%. * Leaks about 98 billion litres of water per year. * Was fined £40 million last year for illegally dumping sewage. * And since 2020 has spent a total of 2,459,367 hours dumping sewage into our rivers and onto our beaches. * Oh and Liz was paid £1.3 million the last year she worked for the company. And all of that is supposed to make us feel better but Thames Water? thetimes.com/business/compan…

Since 15th May this year water companies have dumped mountains of sewage onto 244 bathing spots on 764 separate occasions. "Exceptional situations", anyone? inews.co.uk/news/bathing-spo…

The America vulture capitalists now running Thames Water are trumpeting Liz Barber, former CEO of Yorkshire Water, as the new saviour of the company. Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would. Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water. itv.com/news/calendar/2024-1…

The very brilliant, tenacious, redoubtable journalist that is @gillplimmer1 of the @FT describes her decent into a sewage scandal that has rocked the nation, the making of new friends, I am honoured to be one of them and the threats, the bullying, the cajoling of the water companies all in a failed attempt to get her to stop. Fabulous, fabulous read... ft.com/content/9399b276-d8b7…

Until last week, men over 50 were entitled to a free PSA prostate cancer check. But the government has now decided to withdraw that right. I cannot for the life of me work out what their reasoning might be.

Thames Water's finance director given a £1,000,000 signing on bonus. Water industry depravity hits an all time low. Their contempt for customers and the environment clearly knows no bounds. When are govt going to intervene and put a stop to this? @andyburnham @angelaeagle news.sky.com/story/thames-wa…

"Sewage spill from failing treatment plant blights first Thames bathing area. The site was named an official bathing spot 12 weeks ago. Water samples then showed E coli colonies were six times the legal limit." Back in May I went down to Teddington to meet the Bluetits and speak to @NickFerrariLBC on @LBC about the new swimming spot on the Thames and here we are, just 12 weeks later and E. coli levels are 6 times the legal limit. observer.co.uk/news/national…

And here's the really galling bit, our chalk streams are dying, over abstracted to hell and back by water companies too greedy to find another source of supply. But wait they cry, we're going to save them... by using exactly the same failed methods of the past, leakage reduction and demand control... hasn't worked in 40 years isn't going to work now... what a farce.
Lots of raging about not building reservoirs. The main reason is successive Governments prioritised lower bills over reservoir building, relying on leak reduction and demand control which didn’t work. Carsington was last one, design began in 1960s, opened in 1992.
