But you wanted compromise. “Just 20 weeks.” “Just heartbeat bills.” “Just ban the late-term ones.” “Just elect Republicans.” You took the slaughter of innocent children and turned it into a negotiating position. You drew arbitrary lines around human beings and called the lines “progress.” Then you watched the culture move those lines again. And again. And again. Eventually, you shouldn’t be shocked when a civilization that spent decades teaching itself that the value of human life can be negotiated starts producing increasingly horrifying consequences. Compromise didn’t solve the problem. It taught an entire generation that some lives can be sacrificed if the politics are convenient enough. The abolitionists weren’t “too extreme.” They were the people who refused to negotiate with the premise that innocent human life is negotiable. History has a brutal way of exposing the difference. Killing innocent human beings was always the extreme position.
