National security expert @HagarChemali joins our Rabbi @AmmiHirsch to discuss her unique identity as a “Lebanese Zionist” and her mission with the Lebanon-Israel Peace Alliance. Having fled the Lebanese Civil War as a teenager and later discovered a hidden family heritage, Chemali now proudly embraces both Christian and Jewish roots. Together, they explore the growing internal pressure within Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and the broader prospects for regional peace. youtu.be/oV_zNXIpxP4
I’m back with a new season of my @FreeSynagogue “In These Times” podcast. My first guest spent years in top #NationalSecurity roles in the Bush & Obama admins & spokesperson @UN. Her personal story & tireless #PeaceBuilding efforts on the #Lebanon #Israel front are just as fascinating. My full conversation w/ @HagarChemali: youtu.be/oV_zNXIpxP4?si=0l3S…

Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, a leading voice in the US Reform community, in his Yom Kippur sermon on Monday called on Jews to hedge their support for politicians, urged young Jews to take leadership roles amid rising hostility in the US, and warned that hatred of Israel was corrupting the US. American Jews helped build the country that embraced them. As antisemitism returns to public life, Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch’s message this Yom Kippur is not to retreat: Stay and fight, strengthen Jewish life, and stop supporting politicians and institutions that turn against Jews. tabletmag.com/sections/belie…

Deep down, we know that the return of legitimated, tolerated, excused, contextualized, intellectualized and often violent antisemitism — and loathing of Israel — is a flashing warning sign of the decay of something uniquely precious about America, itself.

Religion has the power to destroy and the power to uplift. Twenty-five years after 9/11, the only question is which one we choose.

Have any of @NYCMayor's #Jewish staffers educated him that Tisha B'Av commemorates the destruction of the ancient Jewish state and the loss of Jewish sovereignty? And have they taught the Mayor that the dream of national restoration began immediately upon the destruction - a dream that came to fruition nearly two millennia later in the mid-20th century when the State of #Israel was established? Had they informed the Mayor about #Judaism, they would have spared him embarrassment, and the impression of being ignorant, or worse, hypocritical. Mayor Mamdani: If you wish to express identification with the Jewish community, mean it. Otherwise, spare us your holiday greetings.
Wishing a peaceful Tisha B’Av to Jewish New Yorkers across the five boroughs. From sundown tonight until tomorrow, mourners will pause and reflect on the history and resiliency of the Jewish people. May all observing have a safe and meaningful fast.

How a country treats its Jews is the ultimate test of its health and moral vigor. We've lost ground — and we must recapture it, for the good of the Jews and the country we love. My full convo with @FranklinFoer on the golden age of American Jews — and what comes after the fall: youtu.be/0PPj4t-_Q1o

Has the golden age of American Jews come to an end? @TheAtlantic's @FranklinFoer joins Rabbi @AmmiHirsch to trace how Jews moved from the margins to the heart of American life — and why the sun is setting on that era. "We were playing a home game… now it feels like we're playing an away game," he said, explaining that the decline has serious implications for Jewish security, American democracy and Israel's standing. youtu.be/0PPj4t-_Q1o

My guess is that @bradlander knows that the “genocide” smear is a lie, an ancient blood libel dressed up for modern consumption. If I am right, it begs the question, why does he — a self-proclaimed liberal Jewish Zionist — continue to spread this fabricated falsehood that empowers our ideological adversaries and militant enemies who seek the destruction of the Jewish state and the Jewish people?  As a liberal Jewish Zionist myself, I hope that once the campaign is over — whether Mr. Lander is elected or not — that he uses his platform to speak truth to power. nytimes.com/2026/06/17/nyreg…

Our Re-CHARGING Reform Judaism conference yielded some incredibly thought-provoking conversations about leadership, meaning, and the future of #Jewish life. @JNFRobinson noted people are looking for leadership and for pathways that help them discover purpose and connection.  @RabbiYoshi reflected on a world hungry for meaning, stillness, transcendence, and authentic Jewish experience, and challenged our institutions to be worthy of that search.
