An FOI investigation by @MonicaLennon7 into the availability of sanitary products in NHS hospitals has led @scotgov to instruct every health board to make sure appropriate provision is available

As always, as soon as we talk about our @FreePeriodNE to secure free sanitary products for girls and women, we are told they are cheap enough to buy. But, at the same time seemingly too expensive to provide free of charge. #periodpoverty

The fact women have to pay for sanitary protection, let alone worry about affording it while living in poverty, is inhumane and discriminatory. A lot of education needs to happen! Confusion super flow...& excellent response from @FreePeriodNE

It’s for dignity and hygiene not vanity. Would hate to think it was an issue for me and can see people having to skimp on this to buy food. Why are we even having to discuss this basic need? Should be a given

It's also about choice. If you want to buy the branded stuff you should be able too. Shouldn't have to buy the cheapest product which most women find aren't for purpose. xitter.cf/FreePeriodNE/status/98…

This campaign was started by people who have experienced or supported people who are affected by period poverty. The cost of periods vary from woman to woman what doesn’t change is that if you have no money to meet basic hygiene needs then you have no money. That’s period poverty

"For a family where there is a mother and two daughters who have periods, the average cost per month of buying sanitary products is £20." Three women, three periods. And, as the lass earlier pointed out, cheap sanitary products are not a practical option for some women.
