Grateful to have attended the Fourth Fratelli Tutti Synodal Meeting in Rome, which brought together leaders from government, business, labor, academia, and civil society for an important discussion on the responsible development and use of AI. Thank you to the @AFLCIO and the @VaticanNews for the invitation and for helping convene such a thoughtful range of voices. The conversation gave me time to reflect on an increasingly important principle that is also at the heart of @Microsoft AI’s new Code of Conduct: as AI advances, people must remain at the center. These technologies should expand human potential and opportunity while remaining firmly under human direction and control. As teachers and students head back into the classroom, I’ve been reflecting on the lessons and momentum from the Presidential AI Challenge. It’s hard to believe it launched just over a year ago, but its mission remains just as relevant: helping students build the skills to use AI thoughtfully and empowering educators with the training, tools, and support to guide that learning. The opportunity presented by AI in education continues to grow, but so does the importance of getting its use right.
