When someone runs from federal agents into a crowded grocery store, everyone inside is in danger. Ending it fast is the safest thing agents can do for the shoppers. Alamo sits in Hidalgo County in the Rio Grande Valley, just a few miles from the Mexican border. It's become a flashpoint for ICE this fall. Last month in Alamo, DHS says two people tried to obstruct an ICE vehicle stop, followed the officers and banged on their window. When agents moved to detain them, they fought back, and deportation officers were treated at a clinic for minor injuries. Running from or resisting federal officers is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 111. Texas backs ICE. SB 4, passed in 2017, bans sanctuary policies and requires local jails to honor ICE detainers. Pew estimates about 1.6 million illegal aliens live in Texas, and FAIR puts the cost to Texas taxpayers at about $13.3 billion a year. As with all estimates, give them a reasonable multiplier if you want the true number.
