One of the most unexpected but highly successful delegations. The @urbeEth Campus (web3 dev bootcamp from 0 to 1 for dev students) at 42Prague coding school was a great success. New developers onboarded and they participated in their first @ETHGlobal hackathon, congrats! Then the hackathon was great: together with @SolidityDrone and @TBlackicon , we built Remote, a chain-abstraction protocol for using any* DeFi protocol from any chain*, thanks to cross-chain messaging with @LayerZero_Core and remote-controlled smart accounts tied to the user EOA. Inspired by EIP-7503 Zero-Knowledge Wormholes (which I find brilliant), me and @crypto_lippo_49 built an ERC-20 implementation for @ETHGlobal Trifecta. The idea is to enable privacy on a public EVM by reminting secretly burned tokens, using a zk proof from @SuccinctLabs SP1 zkVM. The "burn" happens by transferring tokens to a precomputed dead address that looks like a regular 0x address. Since it’s indistinguishable from a normal transfer, no one can tell it's being used for a privacy protocol. The proof to verify for re-minting the tokens proves that: - the sender knows the precomputed unspendable address. - the sender can compute the unspendable address using CREATE2 providing the secret and nonce - the sender and bytecode are correct according to the program => the unspendable address is actually unspendable - the sender has sent enough funds to the unspendable address than the input amount. This is made by proving the Ethereum state in the zkVM and proving the balanceOf call execution checking the unspendable balance. The mint call can be executed through relayers since the amount and the receiver address are in the proof public values and validated onchain. So address A can burn tokens by sending them to the precomputed dead address and later address B can re-mint the tokens by providing a valid SNARK proof. To maximize privacy we developed an executable binary of the succinct's SP1 rust program to generate proofs locally.
