This is exactly why I love using Samsung and Android. Over the last few weeks I've been digging through One UI builds, testing new Galaxy features, finding things that haven't been widely covered yet and seeing what developers can squeeze out of Samsung hardware. A few favourites: • Found Motion Assist hiding in One UI 9 before it was properly usable • Tested Galaxy camera features on my own S26 Ultra • Followed S27 and One UI 9.5 changes beyond the headlines • Watched developers recreate some of Apple's newest ideas on Galaxy hardware within hours I'm not interested in just reposting Samsung news. I want to show you what's new, what actually matters, how it works and whether it's any good on a real device. If you're into Samsung, Galaxy, One UI and Android, that's pretty much what you'll find here. What keeps you using Samsung?

A bit more context for anyone who wants to dig deeper: • Motion Assist was something I spotted in One UI 9 beta before it was properly functional • The camera shot above was taken point-and-shoot in Portrait mode on my S26 Ultra in Spain • The Fold animation is a developer project I’ve been following since its first version • I’ll keep covering S27/One UI 9.5 changes as the evidence develops I’ll add useful links, sources and updates under this thread rather than cluttering the main post.

One other thing I've started getting into is building my own One Ul-style widgets. wanted Slack to fit my Galaxy home screen better, so I've been working on my own widget with different sizes and alert states rather than just waiting for the official app to improve theirs. Still a work in progress, but this is exactly the sort of thing I enjoy messing around with. Thanks to @thatjoshguy69 for sharing the One Ul pack this is based on. Definitely worth checking out his collection of resources if you fancy having a go yourself.

That's definitely one way to test the video stabilisation on the IPhone 17 Pro Max vs the Samsung 26 Ultra... Although much like doing drop tests down flights of stairs to test build quality, I can't imagine anyone needing to use this level of stabilisation in a real world scenario 😅 If you can think of one, let me know 👇🏼

Props to @Mohammed_K_2010 for another brilliant article for @sammygurus showing not 1 but 40 case images for the next Samsung flagship... What do you think of the new design? It seems to be a marmite, love it or hate it situation! (With most people hating it 🫠) Will the specs make up the lack of variable aperture and the new camera layout?
Leaked cases for the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra again point to the redesign shown in earlier CAD renders. - 40 case images now listed across several e-commerce platforms - Wide rectangular camera bar replaces the vertical layout used for years - Galaxy S27 series expected to include 4 models - Galaxy S27 and S27+ may keep the familiar design, and miss Qi2 Why the S27 Pro and Ultra may need that space, on our site.

Xiaomi has actually beaten Samsung to something pretty useful with the Xiaomi 18 Pro. As @UniverseIce put it, Xiaomi has brought “split-screen privacy protection ahead of the Galaxy S27 Ultra”. You can have Privacy Display active on one app in split-screen while the other stays completely normal, and the protected area follows as you resize the windows. What makes this interesting though is Samsung already appears to have the stronger underlying tech. The S26 Ultra still wins when it comes to “pure privacy-screen strength”, while Xiaomi currently has the advantage in flexibility and the number of ways it can actually use it. And the video shows that the S26 Ultra CAN selectively privacy-block smaller areas of the display such as floating video windows (not just password boxes or message pop-ups). So if Samsung combines that stronger privacy effect with Xiaomi-style split-screen control and improves everything again for the S27 Ultra, the second generation of Privacy Display could be a pretty big upgrade. Xiaomi got there first with the smarter software. Samsung now needs to take it further with the S27 Ultra in February... Video courtesy of @UniverseIce 🫡

This is a VERY cool concept! @thatjoshguy69 @fahadalijaved
Duo-Man offers the complete walkman experience on the iPhone Duo. Open the Duo to pick and 'insert' the cassette, Close the Duo to start listening. Yes, I actually recorded the button clicks and static noise from a real Walkman! It was fun making this at @bitrig hacks today.

That's got to sting 🫥🫥 And everyone's kicking off about someone "stealing" or "copying" the IPhone Duo animation... 🤪
Apple has been fined $5,700,000,000 after a US jury found them guilty of using patented tech in Apple Watches and iPhones. This is by far the largest patent infringement award in US history.

@Universelce has been looking at the iPhone 18 Pro variable aperture and asking the obvious question - if it actually helps in real photos, is it a miss that Samsung decided not to go with variable on the S27 Ultra? @kro_roe asked the same thing last week. Rumours started around the S26 Ultra launch that Samsung were testing variable aperture again, they had it back on the S9 and S10 series but they decided it was too expensive for the marginal benefits it gave and they could achieve the same results with an optimised software approach. I was pretty gutted they decided to drop it, but so far I haven't seen any photos from the new I Phone's that have blown me away and made me regret Samsungs decision. Guys like @Wvisioncreation, @smasithick and @SWiggah1 are still producing shots with the S26 Ultra that blow most other phones out of the water (check them out for a masterclass in digital photography). Most people will stay in Auto and point and shoot - which the I Phone has always been good at. If the only time it matters is a handful of users using Pro and Raw shots, Samsung can live without it if they increase the sensor size and have a few tricks up their sleeve. If it genuinely improves the everyday shots on the I Phone, and Samsungs decision leaves them trailing being Apple, it could be a failed gamble on their part. I Phone users are you actually using the 18 Pro variable aperture in mixed light to nail the perfect shot? Or is it still a demo feature that looks cool but makes minimal difference? If anyones got some decent comparisons, or even just epic shots - drop them below 👇🏼 Video courtesy of @UniverseIce 🫡

Someone absolutely SMASHED the I Phone Duo animation on a Samsung Fold 8 again - you've got to love the freedom to be able to make something you like on Android. Like an animation? No problem, make it. Need an app? Sure - ask @claudeai and have a prototype in a few days... The options are endless when you're not locked behind a company that lets you have what they want, when they want you to have it... 😉
