A friend’s 16yo daughter just got run off the road here in Atlanta by a truck. She swerved to the side of the road. They pulled up beside her, blocking her. She ripped off her mask and their expression shifted. One said “oh, she’s not Asian” before driving off.

There is no place in the world for hate crimes and violence. We mourn for those lost in yesterday’s horrific shootings targeted at the Asian American Pacific Islander community, and for the exponential rise in anti-Asian violence across the country. [thread 1/4]

TL;DR: let’s not “gatekeep” the so-called gatekeepers. Give POC LGBQT young/ new to publishing people an opportunity to prove themselves instead of constantly focusing on the lack (lack of sales, pedigree). Only by lifting others up will we make a difference. #publishing

In simply parroting the killer’s words, and treating them as the objective truth, law enforcement in Georgia doled out a galling, incomprehensible kindness to the shooter and harm to the dead. @bridgetgillard writes nym.ag/3tshibh

I want to know their names, who and what they loved, the people they had waiting for them at home, everything they hoped for. I want to know the fabric of their days and the contexts of their lives.

I have purchased lots of birthday gifts for toddlers lately. I mostly gift children’s books featuring protagonists of color, typically girls of color. This came up after a (white) parent said her son almost never receives books featuring female and/or non-white protagonists.
