Mental simulation decouples content speed from temporal reference frame, allowing imagined scenes to run in fast-forward without altering spatial outcomes. This dissociation suggests the mind tracks temporal and spatial dynamics as independent variables, distinct from how video playback compresses time.

1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness.

Overall, our findings suggest that selectively selectively attend reward-predictive features may be necessary to bind them to their outcomes and teach the visual system what to prioritize. This mechanism, however, seems to be partly dissociable from awareness itself.
