A must read to understand the link between energy and food systems in the latest EU proposals on biomethane 👇
Biomethane is touted as a ‘green’ alternative to fossil gas by its industry proponents... 🚨But @FeedbackEU’s new analysis exposes how EU proposals to ramp up production reflect corporate interests & could be an environmental disaster. A thread 🧵👇 (1/5)buff.ly/3rlgRnH

As floods & fires rise, oceans boil & ice melts, and "safe" temperatures are breached, something momentous just happened in the heart of the EU. No one has heard about it: journalists were present, but their editors refused to publish 🤯. 🧵, please RT. #BeyondGrowth2023 1/

How do we quantify the intangible benefits that many sustainability initiatives bring about? And if we compare these benefits and costs, which implications for decision-making arise? In my open lecture, I'll try to formulate an answer to these questions: ugent.be/en/agenda/cost-bene…

Drawing on #LaclauAndMoufe + #JudithButler, we develop a typology of transformations, which we use to analyse the transformative potentials of socioecological and political agendas, incl. eco-#modernism, #marxism, #decoloniality, eco-#feminism, #degrowth & eco-#anarchism. (1/9)

New Nature paper. Europe already outsources much ag production, fueling tropical deforestation. Bioenergy in Fit for 55 plan does more: diverts 20% of EU cropland to bioenergy, 4x increase in wood imports for bioenergy, and loss of half of EU's diverse semi-natural grasslands.
EU climate plan sacrifices carbon storage and biodiversity for bioenergy go.nature.com/3AU2bxx
