HERE IS HOW TO TRAIN YOUR SELF WORTH: 1. Inconsistent - Detach 2. Hot and cold - walk away. 3. Half effort - Expect nothing more. 4. Mixed signals - Take it as a no. 5. Last minute plans - Decline. 6. Taken for granted - Disappear quietly. 7. Disrespected - Leave with your peace. 8. Played - Glow up in silence. 9. Underestimated - Let your growth speak.

Today I attended service at a Catholic church, and I’m seriously considering joining the Pope’s people. Hawa watu hawana mambo mingi. 😂 You criticise their religion, they listen until you finish. Nobody is rolling up their sleeves to defend Rome. You came with your mouth, finish talking and go home. They attend Mass, receive Communion, say Hail Mary, then some pass by their local for a cold beer. From “peace be with you” to “weka moja baridi” without quarrelling with anybody. 😂 Nobody is inspecting your clothes. Wear the same shirt every Sunday until the collar gives up. You came to see God, and God already knows that shirt. No loudspeaker facing somebody’s cows, announcing that the devil has refused to leave the village. The church bell rings, and those who are going start walking. And they’re not begging you to join. The church has been beside the road since your grandfather was a boy. You know the entrance. Ukijiskia, ingia. What pleased me most was not being asked to stand up, introduce myself, say who invited me and explain whether I’m visiting or looking for a spiritual home. Yaani I can come and pray without giving the village my CV? 😂 By the time I left, nobody had recruited me into a committee or asked why my wife hadn’t come. Very disciplined people. Somebody tell the Pope there is a man from Kingeero coming and I already know where the church is. 😂

I would recommend every body to make some lumpsome money ,not a lot but enough. Enough to pay off your debts ,school fees for a year ,rent for some months and all other expenses catered for .After you have made this money I want you to take time off , dnt go on holiday or the village just stay where you live and slow down . Dnt think about starting business or any project, just eat sleep and go for walks . This gives you an aerial view of the rat race , you will listen to your neighbors waking up at the crack of dawn and coming back at night, you will watch stress consume them as they chase numbers on a screen . You will learn that life is not all about making more . Only then will your life begin .

Modern luxury is the ability to live quietly. No drama. No noise. No pretending to be someone you are not. Just living a low-key life that actually feels like yours. Reading good books. Listening to music. Staring at walls. Going for walks. Watching classic movies. Working on your purpose. Thinking about life and all. Feeling joy in ordinary things. Just that. That is peace.

I honestly cannot understand why many African academics, especially in East Africa, seem to despise QUALITATIVE research. To many of my Kenyan professor friends, research is not considered “real research” unless it is QUANTITATIVE research.

I hope trading works out for you. Seriously. I know how many hours you’ve probably spent staring at charts while everyone around you wondered what the hell you were doing. I know how stupid the dream can feel when nothing is working. I hope one day it all makes sense.

Speaking in my personal capacity, I still work at Google DeepMind, and I also am worried that AI will kill us all, either via near term risks or long term risks or both Will stating this publicly get me into (more) trouble? I hope not, but also some things are too important to censor oneself about in personal capacity, so I will simply not care about whatever policy Google or GDM have in this instance regarding such statements ☺️
I was on the communications & policy team at Google DeepMind from 2018 - 2022. When I first joined GDM, external communication about the possibility of human extinction was not permitted, by anyone, at any level of the organization. If asked about existential risk, researchers were PR trained to respond along the lines of: "It's not useful to engage in that kind of alarmism. Some people confuse AI with movies like Terminator -- that's simply not the reality. The AI we develop will be safe by design. After all, we're building it!" And then steer conversation towards beneficial applications in health, climate, etc. Meanwhile, the internal reality was that AI alignment was not solved, reward hacking was the default behavior of RL agents, and there were far too few people working on the problem. After months of advocacy, the policy was updated: positively valenced, comms-friendly content on AI safety was permitted (like deepmindsafetyresearch.mediu…). Note the positive, nice-sounding way that it says "superintelligence could lead to human extinction." The gap between the internal reality and external communications is closing because the risk/reward has changed, and because the evidence is harder to dismiss now. Not because it's a PR stunt or political psy-op. The truth is being said out loud because RSI is now so imminent that no other option makes sense.

Trading is a scam. You start because you want more money. Then you realize the money is just the byproduct... The real thing you're getting is patience, discipline, emotional control and character. The person you become along the way is worth more than the money.

It's time to sound the alarm - louder - on reining in Artificial Intelligence. It's becoming more clear the threat AI poses to humanity, so I'm calling for immediate action from the industry and Washington.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

An Anthropic researcher just quit, warning they're racing to superintelligence. An employee still there agreed, and put the odds of AI killing all humans above 10%. This is an emergency. Congress must convene hearings and pass my and Bernie’s superintelligence ban.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
Replying to @hilbertspaess
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.

Multiple colleagues at Oxford who work as AI researchers have told me they can’t sleep at night because of this. And speed running alignment isn’t going to keep us safe. And please, read the thread.

I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that.
