Bitcoin gave us the code. Namecoin showed us how to tweak it.
15 years ago today, Vincent Durham launched the world's first altcoin and accidentally started a revolution.
Namecoin didn't want to be money; it wanted to be infrastructure:
→ .bit domains governments couldn't seize
→ Decentralized DNS before centralized DNS became a weapon
→ On-chain data storage before anyone thought it was possible
But here's what really mattered:
Namecoin proved the source code wasn't sacred. You could fork it. Rewrite the rules. Build what Bitcoin never imagined.
Litecoin (2011). Ethereum (2015). Thousands of chains after.
All because one developer asked: "What else can this thing do?"
