All three of our children were delivered (including 2x emergency cesareans) for $0 because of the only socialized medical care in America: TRICARE. I cannot tell you how fucked up civilian health insurance feels after TRICARE.

Europeans might pay more taxes than Americans but after yet another bill arrived in the mail, we're up to $4,728 *after insurance* for the birth of our daughter so I think I'd rather just pay taxes.

I think sort of statement is broadly indicative of the way that 'professors' (or academics more broadly) are often held responsible by the public for university policies they don't control, much the way folks rage at actors for movies with bad writing. We don't set tuition! 1/

Maybe! Though it's also possible that college professors whose day job is charging sky-high tuition to the children of the American upper class could find themselves looking at these questions through a distorted lens that lacks pragmatism.

I get asked often when I became a liberal? When did I walk away from my “conservative values?” I didn’t. I have the same values taught me by my New England WWII veteran father and daughter of Italian immigrants mother. The GOP walked away from my values.
This might explain why Twitter's response times have been so terrible the last couple of days
