Rajeev Ranjan held a workshop on “Just Transition and Pathways Forward: Empowering Local Communities and Stakeholder Partnerships in Coalfield Regions” in the key coal district Ramgarh (Jharkhand, #India) where he, amongst others, presented his and A. Krumms Policy Brief.
2) The Brief offers insights into the challenges and opportunities of just transition in #Jharkhand and #India and a localized transition toolkit to aid planning and strategy development to empower local participants.
3) Supported by us and @unihh, this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to foster grassroots engagement and community empowerment in shaping sustainable futures in coal regions.

3/4 Scenarios post-AR5 have shifted towards the first archetype (Phase-out), partly due to cost updates for renewable technologies. However, no evidence of changes in model assumptions was found. Updates are needed to capture well changes in climate science, technology & policy.
4/4 Baselines often underestimate the rapid development of renewable energy but overestimate coal consumption and #CCS scaling. This is relevant, as baselines tend to be crucial reference points, influencing the scale and costs of the #coaltransition in models.
