Prime Minister Mark Carney honoured residential school survivors and the children who never returned home as Canada marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
“Today is about all the truth,” Carney said at a ceremony at Fort Edmonton Park. “And it’s for the children. Those children. Those survivors. Those who didn’t survive.”
Carney said the ceremony called on Canadians to hear survivors’ stories, reflect on what he described as a “dark chapter” in Canada’s past and commit to moving forward together.
