We were commissioned by @exposetobacco to calculate the total spent by tobacco companies on F1 over the years. You can read more at the link below and Formula Money's Caroline Reid, the editor of the research, will be tweeting some key facts about it here.

A few notes on how we compiled the data. The Formula Money Sponsorship Database (sponsors.formulamoney.com) covers all F1 sponsorship deals back to 2004. However, the vast majority of tobacco sponsorship occurred before that.
We spent a long time analysing team liveries, trackside advertising, accounts, marketing documents etc to calculate how much had been spent going all the way back to Gold Leaf's sponsorship of Lotus in 1968. You can read the full report here: exposetobacco.org/wp-content…

So clearly this didn’t happen. Latest news I have is that the circuit are pushing for a November date & hope to announce it this month or by Aug. The hotel which I think a team is staying in have blocked out most dates in November due to an “event”. @FormulaMoney #F1 #VietnamGP
Forgot to Tweet this last week. @gsep123 was spot on that if someone breaks their bubble in #F1 for medical reasons they are exempt

There must have been fewer sponsorship announcements during this season than any previous year. Probably the biggest hasn't even been announced. That's Citibank's partnership of #F1 which only shows on the sport's website. The good news is that not many deals have disappeared!
Always find nuggets in reports of libel trials. Today's is that you can choose to sue someone quoted in a piece, the author of the piece and/or the outlet. The current High Court case is the latter but the former are just as common. #F1 author Tom Bower is often sued personally

Spectacular idea but it looks like the kind of thing that would attract large crowds of people watching it!

Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff in favor of extending current Concorde Agreement through 2021 hsbu.us/FrmAq1f
Toto Wolff says he would race with an extension to the current Concorde Agreement in 2021 to avoid the contracts running out if there is no time for negotiations. It would give short-term visibility though the current terms are weighted in Mercedes' favour

So the UK government has spent £27.4 billion on the furlough scheme so far. Got to wonder how long it will take to pay that back. None of my companies has ever employed anyone so I've not shared in the benefit but I'm sure we will all have to contribute to paying it back!
Last month a source close to Williams said that it was "already starting to see a number of quality options develop." This has now come to fruition as Claire Williams has told @adamcooperF1 it is in talks with "high quality" investors.

Have to say, good on the @fia for ruling on the Merc DAS steering system so quickly. I expected that to drag on for weeks. A swift decision isn't as interesting for journos though! Not a patch on the Benetton 1994 fuel filter enquiry which is my favourite as it had so many layers
Fun fact: the lawyer who defended Benetton in that case was the UK's top libel lawyer and father of my first boss. He defended Tom Cruise, Elton John, Branson and many others. His son @CarmanDominic is still a close friend of mine and one of the most well-connected legal writers
