Today marks one month since the body of a woman was discovered in Stanley Park. As enquiries continue, Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson is making a renewed appeal for information and sharing new details that could help identify the woman. At around 5.25pm on Friday 28 August, officers were called after a member of the public discovered a black bin bag in bushes within the park's walled garden. Officers attended and sadly found the body of the woman. It is believed she had been there for several weeks, possibly since early July. The woman was white, approximately 5ft 2in tall and of slight build and was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt. Further enquiries have revealed: ▪ The woman had no teeth, meaning dental records have not been available to assist with identification. ▪ She suffered from osteoporosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and arthritis in her hands. ▪ She was malnourished, although it has not been possible to determine whether this was linked to her age or neglect. ▪ We have also expanded our enquiries to investigate reports of women aged between 60 and 80. We hope that details about the woman's medical conditions may help someone recognise her and come forward. Do you know someone matching this description who has not been seen for several weeks? This could be a family member, friend, neighbour or someone from your local community. Our enquiries remain ongoing and to date the occupants of nearly 900 properties have been spoken to and 126 women have been eliminated from our enquiries after concerns were raised for people matching the description of the woman.
