I am loving this cover for Shadowveil. The paperback arrived, and it looks better in person.

Me at 8: "Dad, how come you never run?"
Him: "Nowhere I need to be that fast, bud."
Wisest thing I'd ever heard.
I'm 36. My son asked me the exact same question Saturday. I gave him the exact same answer, and he looked at me like I was Clint Eastwood.
I'm never telling him it's my knees.

Elon Musk explains why school feels so boring
School often gets learning backwards.
Elon: "you want to teach to the problem instead of teaching the tools"
Start with something real.
Elon: "here's a car engine, we're going to try to understand how this car engine works. We're going to take it apart."
To take it apart, you need tools.
Elon: "along the way, you learn about wrenches and screwdrivers and all the tools that are needed"
But that's not how school usually works.
Elon: "we're going to teach you a course on screwdrivers and a course on wrenches. And you're like, why do I have a course on wrenches?"
It's like learning to cook.
A year of knife drills is torture.
"Let's make tacos tonight" and you learn the knife in a day.
Elon: "That would be like, say, a course on calculus without explaining what calculus is useful. And then you sort of forget it."
Give people the "why" first. The "how" sticks.
Today was, quite honestly, one of the worst days of my life on a personal level. Then I come on here, and my feed is full of politics. I think I need to go offline for a bit.

300,000 cubic meters of black tsunami sludge.
5,000 crushed automobiles piled three stories high.
Small airplanes snapped in half like plastic toys.
Sendai Airport was completely erased from the map.
Every engineer on television said the exact same thing:
“Six months to reopen. Maybe a year.”
The United States Air Force heard that and said:
“WATCH US.”
March 16, 2011.
Through blinding snow and zero control tower power, an MC-130P Combat Talon dove out of the gray sky and slammed its tires onto a narrow strip of cracked concrete.
Out jumped the 353rd Special Operations Group from Kadena.
Combat Controllers—men trained to seize airfields behind enemy lines.
Only this time, they didn't bring rifles.
They brought steel tow chains, snow shovels, and raw human fury.
Working in 24-degree freezing wind on two hours of sleep a night, they hooked roaring Humvees to mangled sedans and dragged them off the tarmac!
Where cables snapped, six burly airmen locked shoulders against overturned delivery vans, counting “ONE, TWO, THREE!” and flipping them into the mud by sheer muscle!
They crawled on their hands and knees in freezing sleet, picking up jagged glass and twisted metal so giant cargo planes wouldn't blow a tire.
Four days after they touched down, mammoth C-17 Globemasters and C-130s were roaring down that runway, off-loading TWO MILLION POUNDS of warm blankets, heaters, water, and baby milk for freezing Japanese children.
A few mornings later, an American pilot banking over the shattered coastline looked down at the beach beside the runway and went dead silent on the radio.
Japanese survivors—people who had lost their homes, their families, and everything they owned—had dragged heavy, waterlogged tsunami logs across the sand.
They spelled out one giant word, readable only by the Americans in the sky:
A R I G A T O .
In 1945, American planes flew over Japan in war.
In 2011, we looked up at the roar of American engines and saw salvation.
NEVER FORGET WHO CAME THROUGH THE CLOUDS. 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵

Why does so much literacy instruction in elementary and high school go out of its way to make reading a miserable experience for kids?

Personally, I don't care if people are going to change the ratings on my books because of the Goodreads half-star feature.
I care if people leave reviews and ratings of any kind.
If you've read anything I've written, abuse the new feature if you must, so long as you rate.
It is a tough time to write dystopian fiction these days. I mean, what can I write that somebody in power hasn't already considered doing?
I just spent the last two hours looking up the symptoms and timeline for a rattlesnake bite to take effect for my WIP. Anyone looking at my search history will have questions about my mental health.
Nor sarcasm. To the person who read 3 pages of my book before deciding it wasn't for you. Thank you for giving it a chance. Not every story is for everyone. So the fact that you thought enough to try it means a lot to me.
The last 2 weeks' sales have been ice cold. Is now a good time to run a promotion, or is this just a dead period?
Sometimes taking a break helps. Got 2k words written on my novella, Before the Spire, today. I love it when the story starts to write itself, and it is harder to stop writing than to start.
The month started off good, then slowed down. maybe the second half of the month sales can pick up. That's my marketing strategy hope and pray. start of school it too busy for more.
I feel out of the loop on Writer Twitter. First week of school, I missed the drama. Who's fighting now?
