California's snowpack has collapsed at a pace never seen before in late winter, the fastest late February–March melt on record.
Spring snowpack is now on track to be the second smallest since records began in 1950, trailing only 2015, the lowest snowpack year in the Sierra Nevada in at least the last 500 years.
Phillips Station, the state's most iconic snowpack measurement site, is expected to show bare ground on April 1, the date that has historically marked peak snowpack.

Hidden on page 744 of the farm bill the House Agriculture Committee passed Thursday is a provision that would condemn millions of pigs to a lifetime in gestation crates.
Rebranded the 'Save Our Bacon Act,' it's a pork-industry play to wipe out every state law banning the sale of pork from crated pigs — laws the conservative Supreme Court upheld in 2023.
Over 85% of Democrats and Republicans oppose these crates. Voters have backed ballot measures to ban them in state after state.
The pork industry knows it can't win a straight vote on this. So it's burying the provision in an 800-page bill and hoping no one notices.
Contact your senators and representative today and tell them: oppose the farm bill unless the Save Our Bacon Act is stripped out. You can reach them at senate.gov and house.gov — it takes two minutes and it matters.

Some scary scenes out of Chile last night where wildfires ripped through the communities of Penco and Lirquen in the Bibio region. Chilean President Gabriel Boric has declared a State of emergency.
Nearly 20,000 people were ordered to evacuate, and as seen in the video, many cars congested the roads which were run over by fire. There are currently no reports on injuries or possible fatalities.
Up to 12 wildfires are burning in this region, with emergency managers saying 3,000 homes where threatened. There has been widespread destruction to homes, hospitals, and churches in the towns.
Chile is no stranger to large and destructive wildfires in the past few years, with multiple high profile arson cases, including in 2024 where a firefighter and forestry official working for the National Forestry Corporation, were arrested after a fire they set killed 137 people in the Valparaíso region.

Every time Abbotsford floods, buffoons blame climate change.
Most of the southern part of the Fraser Valley are a flood plain, and Abbotsford and Chilliwack area was built on a drained lake called Sumas Lake.
First Nations didn't even build there, instead building on higher ground.
Sumas Lake was world renowned for its bird colonies, trout, and even had lake sturgeons.
It attracted many birders and naturalists.
This is what it looked like.

One of the most incredible sights I have ever witnessed. 10,000’s of migrating Sandhill Cranes take flight from in front of the house as the Fall’s morning sun comes over the horizon. An extra long, throwback Prairie Zen for you. Volume up & enjoy!😊#prairiezen #migration #cranes

“Oil palm plantations on the island of Sumatra that were cleared from forest areas will be reforested, due to the impact of flooding that affected Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.”
If true and transparently implemented, this is excellent news.
My question: which cut-off date will be adopted? 31 December 2020, like the rest of the world?

We put a camera here over a year ago, unsure if it would be a good spot. Always lots of trial and error with cameras when trying to find good spots where wolves like to travel. But, it was a beautiful setting in some conifers along a small creek and we figured wolves would likely would travel through this more open terrain along the creek.
Turns out, this was a pretty good spot. And it wasn’t just wolves that used this scenic stretch of forest as you can see.
In total, we have captured more than 1,500 videos of wildlife on this camera in the past year or so (8.3 hours of footage). Most videos are of snowshoe hares and deer but wolves (the Half-Moon Pack) cruise through the area periodically as do most of the other forest predators.
This 3 minute video is just a highlight reel of some of the most interesting footage.
Big thanks to the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resource Trust Fund for their continued support of our work. That support allows us to share this footage and our findings with millions of people each year!

Never forget that Rick Scott did the largest Medicare fraud in the history of our nation. You don’t want him anywhere near healthcare policy.
Totally agree, @POTUS! I’m writing the bill right now.
We must stop taxpayer money from going to insurance companies and instead give it directly to Americans in HSA-style accounts and let them buy the health care they want. This will increase competition & drive down costs.

The Indonesian government has finally taken action to review the condition of the university educational forest in East Kalimantan, which was illegally bulldozed by a coal mining company. This is a positive step. I hope the company not only pays for its crimes but also restores the destroyed forest.
So many questions arise from this chaotic situation.
During the Eid holidays, a coal mining company illegally destroyed an educational forest managed by Mulawarman University in Kalimantan. The forest was intended for research and conservation purposes.

This is just one of the many people Elon Musk and Trump just fired; a Forest Service employee whose backbreaking work makes our federal land accessible.

ALT Michelle Beutler cleared 67 trees off a U.S. Forest Service road in two days. It was the spring of 2023, after a record-breaking winter in the Stanislaus National Forest in California’s Sierra Nevada. Beutler, 59, worked alone with a chain saw to remove every fallen tree on a 10-mile stretch of road between the town of Long Barn in Tuolumne County and the popular Hull Creek Campground. She single-handedly finished the work so the road could open in time for Memorial Day.

But there’s been no improvement to the whales’ health and well-being, said @Duffling. The last population assessment running to last spring showed 14 whales were emaciated, eight of them females able to bear young or currently caring for calves. #orcas nationalobserver.com/2025/01…
