HELLO!
We have been trying to tell you!
It is the perpetrators of the DOCUMENTED LIES about "prescription opioid medications" that are driving the opioid de=prescribing agenda that has KILLED hundreds of thousands of pain patients over the past decade! Go arrest THOSE fraudsters!

2/9 · When CDC issued its 2016 opioid prescribing “guideline,” insurers, state Medicaid programs, pharmacies and clinics quickly gave it the force of regulation, often in ways that cut against patient-centered care.
A guideline is meant to be considered, not obeyed.

The text was careful. The picture wasn’t.
How did so many Americans come to believe doctors were the main cause of overdose deaths? Part of the answer is a pair of CDC graphics: careful words about deaths that “involve” a prescription opioid, set against the image of a prescription pad.

On Oct 5, I gave a plenary to the Addiction Health Services Research meeting: a room of researchers who study opioids, pain and addiction. Some of the analyses used to justify forced dose reductions came from our community. I’m part of that community.
Researchers didn’t write the policies. But our choices made those policies easy: which variable we treat as the cause, which results we emphasize, which puzzling findings we leave unexplained. Those are ethical choices, not just technical ones.
If you live with pain and had your opioids cut against your will, this talk is partly about you. I’ll post it in 9 short clips, one a day, in this thread.

#Pain: 'Malignant as cancer'—and an overlooked cause of suicide
By Lynn Webster, MD — Oct 06, 2026
“Thousands of people who die by suicide experience chronic pain before they end their lives. It's a tragedy I've seen up close, a stark reminder that suicide prevention must include patients living with pain—and the families who live with loss.”

United States and the May 9, 2025 Executive Order that both require a two-part test (including a mens rea component) to establish guilt on the part of a doctor prescribing pain medications.

Pain is NOT addiction.
Taking RX pain meds are not drug use to get high. Shame on anyone who attacks the medically vulnerable Complex Pain population with PROPaganda, judgement, and lies based on their own struggles with substances. Especially from someone who uses cannabis while judging people who take RX pain meds responsibly for years, even decades, to manage legitimate medical conditions.

On Oct 5, I’ll give the AHSR plenary “Irrational Exuberance, Ethical Failure: Lessons from Our Prescription Opioid Story.”
I started out planning a policy talk. But I’ve changed course: I want to look harder at the role of people like me—researchers, analysts, explainers. 1/3

My email 🧵today to the NIH regarding the grant program for research into health disparities, asking if any of these funds are being used to find out what we have been asking about patient harms and deaths caused by the de-prescribing agenda:
"I am writing to inquire about whether this effort to address health disparities will be doing any research about the effects of the public health initiative involving the opioid de-prescribing, agenda and the numbers of harms and deaths being caused to patients by this agenda. And, the fact that FLASE CLAIMS about "prescription opioid medications" are driving these policies even though the government's own data clearly shows that:
1. Prescription opioid medications were NOT a causal factor in the parabolic rise in deaths from illicit fentanyl analog compound poisonings that began in about 2010;
2. While the "opioid crisis* was framed by the litigation narrative as having been caused by "over-prescribing," the actual fact of the matter is that pain medications prescribed to patients did not cause the crisis, but rather MISUSE, ABUSE, and DIVERSION caused the problems, not "overprescribing." Multiple researchers have poured through the data to reach this truth and have written about it extensively in the medical literature
3. It is statistically IMPOSSIBLE to claim that the effort to reduce prescribing has in any way contributing to the reduction in the numbers of deaths caused by illicitly obtained drugs because the number of patients prescribed pain medications who go on to develop opioid use disorder has been shown by FDA mandated studies to be 1.4%, and an even smaller number of those patients ever die from their medications, which almost always involves polypharmacy and/or alcohol misuse/abuse and is NOT specifically due to the pain medication. So, the idea that reducing prescribing to all of the pain patients (when this tiny number of patients prescribed opioids and who develop OUD) is helping, reduce deaths is not statistically possible, and cannot possibly represent any significant number of prevented deaths attributable to the de-prescribing agenda because those were not the people dying en masse in the first place. This crisis has been driven by the availability of illicit drugs from the beginning, and any claim otherwise is absolutely fraudulent."

Using decrease in prescriptions such as anti-psychotics, opioids, anti-depressants, benzos, Z drugs, etc. as a proxy for "improved patient outcome" is dangerous. How much longer are we going to allow this to occur before we actually start measuring patient outcome?

I find it fascinating that some risk score algorithms define "overprescribing" as a doctor not adopting the CDC Guidelines when the CDC Guidelines literally say they aren't rigid standards. Ironic, don't you think? I mean, if a doctor doesn't apply the rigid thresholds then that dr is the one actually following the guidelines, no?

There are ZERO scientific reasons to be denying patients in pain the relief they can get ONLY from opioid pain medications. There is STILL no substitute that can relieve the pain and suffering of chronic, intractable, trauma, cancer, palliative, hospice, and surgical pain patients. The constant messaging about the "risks" of opioids is not supported by the government's own data from the Morbidity and Mortality reports and overdose death reports!
Pain is now discounted by hospitals and doctors, causing mis-diagnosis, medical errors, and harms and deaths to patients!
THIS FRAUD AGAINST PAIN MEDICATIONS HAS TO STOP!
