Violence is not protest. Hatred has no place in South Yorkshire.
The best - indeed the only - response to the heartbreaking attack in Southport, and the violence we’ve seen across the country, is to redouble our efforts to look out for and after each other.
That is who we are.

ALT Graphic with text: This week we’ve seen the tragic consequences of the attack in Southport spark isolated outbreaks of violence and hatred across the country. I know that violence is both frightening and shocking for the vast majority of people across South Yorkshire who simply want to live side by side with their neighbours and friends, whatever their faith, race or background. Over the coming days please do reach out and make sure that those people who may be worried, know that in South Yorkshire we look after each other. Thats what we’ve always done, and what we will continue to do in the face of those who desperately want to divide our communities.

92 years ago today (24 April, 1932) the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass took place.
This marked the beginning of the right-to-roam movement. 🥾
Thanks to these pioneers we can now all enjoy the right to access our Peak District National Park. 💚

On 21 March 2005, WDH was formed, which means today we turn 19 years old! We’ve achieved a lot from becoming the fifth largest housing association in England in 2006 to turning the old Pontefract fire station site into 37 new affordable apartments in 2023.
Happy Birthday WDH!

BREAKING: Sheffield Hallam University is offering *all* academic staff voluntary severance, The Tribune can reveal.
The email — which was sent to around 4,000 academic staff by deputy vice chancellor Professor David Shepherd yesterday morning — said the scheme was intended to address the financial “challenges” the university was facing.
The email says the scheme is voluntary and will be open to all academic staff across the university employed on teaching, research, senior academic and professor contracts.
It goes onto say employees whose applications are approved will receive a severance payment based on ten times their gross monthly pay. The normal leaving date will be 29 February 2024.
More to follow.

Hello!
Posting to warn you that tomorrow (Thursday 30th November) part of Commonside will be closed off from 4pm until around midnight.
This is because the Hallamshire and The Closed Shop are coming together to hold the wake of a much loved member of our local community.
