From Villach we jumped on the ÖBB Railjet to Venice🇮🇹. If you pay an extra €15 on top of your first class seat you’ll get ’business class’ which on this train is the top category with a large leather seat, welcome drink (soft drink or wine) and dining car service at your seat.
I also really must recommend the NH Santa Lucia, a literal stone’s throw from the train station, next to the ’water bus’ and within walking distance of most sights. Also old world charm-ing, yet clean and modern. Bonus pic of fantastic spaghetti alla scoglio at nearby Pontini.
Back to travel after 4 relaxing days in beautiful Lake Bled. Today a short jump from Bled to Villach in Austria with a ÖBB intercity train (I think). Quite empty train, with first class meaning a seat in a shared compartment.
Next up on the trip is (was) the ÖBB Nightjet from Berlin to Graz🇦🇹. Very comfortable deluxe sleeper with private bathroom and shower. No free welcome prosecco this time though, as was the case during my last trip in 2019. Fortunately they at least had sekt for sale onboard.
Now another 24 hours in Ljubljana before continuing to the countries’ most famous destination. Surprisingly pretty and nice city Ljubljana with a great pulse, happy people and beautiful buildings, as well as local truffle ’fuzi’ pasta.
Off to Berlin on the semi-new SJ Euronight sleeper from Stockholm. Since 1st class (private bathroom) was super expensive, we’re travelling in a cozy but tiny 2nd class sleeper compartment.
Currently no dining car or onboard bistro, just a small kiosk. Staff had requested a proper one I overheard, but due to different tracks in Denmark it is currently not possible. But they have 49 SEK Flensburger Pilsener!
